Am I able to?

Everything is just getting more crazy and been on hold over an hour wondering if anybody here can help with our questions.

 

Our elderly father in law is booked on the Beyond on March 19th with us, originally booked as a single.  He has balance problems and needs a walker so we don't mind helping him but he prefers to have somebody in his room in case he falls, etc.  I just added my daughter to his cabin and paid the extra money, my question, what happens should my father in law back out and on the day say he doesn't want to go?  Will my daughter be able to still go as she took off work for that week or will she not able to go since (assuming ) he isn't going?

He would just be a no show at the pier. She wouldn’t have any issues. Just don’t try to remove him from the booking. Leave it as is and there will be no problems.

Since it will be after final payment date he will loose his entire deposit and final payment.  Your daughter will enjoy the room to herself and continue with him either being a cancellation or no-show.

 

If he were to have gotten any cause for cancellation insurance and you cancel him before the cruise he might be able to get 80-100% of his payment back.   Your daughter would not be impacted.    I know someone that this happened to.

We booked him less than two weeks ago when he agreed and was happy but now he won't go.  My daughter was added to the room so its not a loss any longer since she be going.  Thank you so much for your reply, made me feel better.

Hope he changes his mind and decides to go.  I’ve seen you post a few times about your trip and sounds like you really would love to have him with y’all.

I am not suggesting you ‘push’ him to go but you could try to see exactly why he has changed his mind. 
 

I only mention this because the last holiday we booked for my Mum before she died she wanted to opt out a month before going. Her worries focused on reduced mobility, not feeling up to shopping for new clothes, using the Euro and fear of ‘being a burden’…Obviously all easy to overcome. With a bit of reassurance she came and had a wonderful time. Sometime as one gets older the focus of everything not part of the usual routine can be daunting…

 

However things work out sincere best wishes for a wonderful cruise!

Just wanted to say I really hope he goes. My mom has Parkinson's and is severely impaired and I think back to a few years ago before her impairment required assisted living, and I wish we'd taken her more places, despite her not wanting to go, when she could still do those things. We did do some local trips, but I often thought, "Oh, that's a lot of trouble, she's in pain, she doesn't feel well, I'll leave her alone and let her rest as she wishes." I love that you have booked him on a cruise. I hope so much for your family's sake and his that he goes since it will be a memory you'll have forever.

You might want to think about renting a wheelchair for the cruise. They are delivered to the cabin, fold up when not in use, not expensive,  easy to push.  That way if the water is rough, he feels tired just use the wheelchair and off he goes. He can sit in a regular chair in the dining room. I would also suggest a wheelchair escort at embarkation and disembarkation  - that can often be a taxing walking experience.  Free service, just a tip.

Thank you but he refuses a wheelchair, and we believe he is going to back out, so added my daughter in the cabin yesterday (she is 30).

ah, that's rough. I understand, however. The last time I traveled with my mom was in 2018 and she was knocked down in the airport so she finally agreed to a wheelchair in the airport on the way home. It was very difficult for her to accept that she needed one on some occasions.

My mom also refused a wheelchair until she saw how much safer and less stressful travel was. She does not use it anywhere other than traveling.  I hope your father in your law ends up going.

Me too, but it doesn't look good, but at least we know we done everything to get him to go, many thanks.
