We have a cruise coming up,in May. We are a party of 3. Our daughter is 21+.

we have free at sea . The adverts suggest she will also benefit from a free drinks package too?

but ncl U.K. call Center say only guest1/2 get this.

are they right? Does that mean I have to take and pay for an additional, package?

if we upgrade to free at sea plus dies that change anything for her?

there seems to be no clear information on this

thanks in advance fir your advice

Paul

I do not know about the terms for the UK, but in the USA, the 3rd (and 4th) passenger would also get the drink package.    When you look at your confirmation, do you see that you paid the gratuity for the 3rd passenger?  If yes, then your daughter does have it.

Free at sea is only for the first two passengers on the booking.  The third person is on a pay as you go basis

I sailed Joy June 26th, 2022 with my wife and my 22yo daughter.

The drink package that came with our FAS absolutely covered my daughter as the 3rd passenger in our cabin. We did not pay a dollar more for her.

There are three of us booked in a 2 bedroom cabin on the Jewell in April.  We have the FAS Adult Beverage Package.  We had to pay the gratuity (x 3) but no other additional charge for the 3rd person to get the Adult Beverage Package.  (This is US, so UK may be different)

FAS terms are different for passengers from the UK compared to the US.  The OP is from the UK.

UK based, sailing on Breakaway in September and 40+ third relative.

We do not have any of the FaS (2 specialist meals or beverage package) for the third passenger.  I suspect the reason is that NCL are getting their own back because UK terms stop them charging the tips on the beverage pack that others have to pay.

Worse still, there is no realistic way we can find for the third passenger to purchase the basic drinks package from FaS.

What’s strange about that is what is stopping you from just getting her a drink on your package?

This is why we are forced to get it for everyone in the same room here in the states. Even if the third person is a child they make us pay the service charge for the minors drink package.

for the past 4 cruises, we've booked a 2 bedroom suite, and traveled with a very close friend. she has always gotten the drink package as part of the booking. the dining package is an entirely different story. this perk only applies to the 1st 2 people in the cabin. any others need to purchase separately

So as suggested Uk passengers get nothing for third/fourth passengers. False advertising  by ncl I would suggest! as free at sea on web suggests 3/4 passenger will get drinks if taken by lead clients .
In reality total nonsense as our two drinks cards could easily get us three drinks at a time and usually only one was asked for. So they may as well not p*ss people off with this different treatment.

That is interesting as we are booked on a cruise the end of May and have 2 grandchildren with us in a 2 bedroom and thought they would get the soda package, but was told no.

Don’t worry about it. Just fetch the sodas from the bar! One card seems to suffice for non alcoholic drinks in practice. Don’t waste your money on the package unless they are going to me on their own

In the US, adult guests (3-8) get the PBP if 1&2 take the PBP promo. If guests 3-8 are under 21 years-old, they do not get the soda package.

If guest #2 is under 21, that guest would get the soda package as the promo if #1 takes the PBP promo. Everyone who receives a package via the promo will pay the applicable 20% service charge.

What a family of 3 (2 adults, 1 child) can do is assign the child to be guest #2. That way, the child will get the soda package and only be charged $1.99 per day. If the child is #3, the child will not get the soda package from the promo and would have to pay $11.94 per day to get the same as when the child is #2. The charge/promo for the adults will not change.

no, they don't. The free at sea open bar service charge does not apply to the 3rd or 4th person if they are under 21, and they don't get a soda package either. I am currently booking a cruise for the 3 of us, and the moment I enter my kid's age, the service charge for the 3rd open bar package is taken out and the total charge becomes $305 instead of $457. I thought that he'd get a soda package instead, but then I read the Ts&Cs and turns out, he doesn't.

That’s how it worked for my family, 1st in each cabin got UBP, 2nd under 21 got soda, 3 and 4 got nothing.

Our Pearl cruise last month with our 9 yr old grandson “Free at Sea” for 3 of us was $457 more when the drink package was chosen as one of the perks.

When I questioned the TA he priced it out without our grandson and it went down to around $314 I can’t remember the exact amount.

TA checked with NCL and was told child would get the non alcoholic or whatever they call it package if we chose drinks as one of our “free at sea” perks.

NCL rep told TA we couldn’t choose it for just the 1st and 2nd person that all 3 of us would be charged accordingly.

We ended up not getting the drink package at all as we had a lot of OBC from TA and knew we wouldn’t drink $457 worth of beverages.
I’m glad we went that route as our bill at the end was only for the balance of my grandson’s service charge as ours was paid by TA.

Have things changed since last month or did we just get an I’ll informed NCL rep?

If it is 2 adults and 1 child, make the child guest #2.

The child will get the soda package for the promo and only pay 20% on the package ($1.99 pppd instead of $21.80 pppd).

Guest #3 (the adult) will still get the PBP and will pay the same 20% as if guest #2.

The issue could be the SDP going to guest #2 (the child) but if the plan was to buy the SDP for guest #3 anyway, nothing will change.

The rep was incorrect.

Initially, everyone is charged the 20% on the PBP (usually $457.80 for 3 people). Once the age of the guests is entered, the system will adjust. In your case, the adjustment would have gone down to $305.20 with the 2 adults getting the PBP and the child getting nothing. Removing the child from the booking took off the 20% from the PBP but if going completely through the booking as you had it, that same amount would have dropped off anyway.

If you had entered the child as guest #2, guests #1 and #3 (the adults) would get the PBP and be charged $305.20 plus guest #2 (the child) would have gotten the soda package and been charged $13.93. In other words, the child would have gotten the soda package and the adults would have gotten the PBP via the promo and only paid the service charges on each package.

According to your invoice, Guest 3 is paying £0 cruise fare. It would be pretty amazing if that also came with unlimited drinks, or any additional perks. It doesn't.

The line "2 × Service Charge - Premium Beverage Package" in the Add-ons section makes it clear that only guests 1 and 2 have drinks included, in accordance with the terms of Free At Sea in the UK.

I think you'll have very little problems sneaking free drinks for your daughter using your cards (especially since they will be Haven cards). But when she's out and about the ship without you, she'll have to pay for anything she orders.

I know that the thread is bouncing around a bit but it's important for people looking for info to know that the terms differ depending on where you are booking from.

My posts are for a USA booking. I hope that they don't confuse anyone looking for UK info.
