Rare EngIceDave Posted March 1, 2023 #26 Share Posted March 1, 2023 Curious, how'd they do this? Just walking the dog around, or did they make everyone line up, bags in front?

I'm curious as well. In airports where they've employed dogs, they've had people walk two-by-two in groups while a dog criss-crosses their path. I wonder how this is done for the cruises.
Rare BlerkOne Posted March 1, 2023 #28 Share Posted March 1, 2023 I would prefer law enforcement to randomly change their routines so as not to be predictable. It also increases the paranoid factor for the guilty. 1
mz-s Posted March 1, 2023 #29 Share Posted March 1, 2023 The dogs at airports are also likely sniffing for explosives, not drugs. So there are probably different protocols.

Rare EngIceDave Posted March 1, 2023 #31 Share Posted March 1, 2023 I saw customs and such with dogs during boarding first week of February, but it wasn't anything formal. Usual wandering dog or two. If they were sniffing for weed products, they're terrible at it
Rare Eli_6 Posted March 2, 2023 #32 Share Posted March 2, 2023 (edited) When I was in Jr High the dogs alerted on my locker. I wouldn't have known what drugs looked like back then. Nothing was in there when they searched it. Ever since then, I have wondered if they sometimes get distracted by things like dog treats, bacon, other food, other dog smells, etc... My husband also once had his vehicle searched in Round Top, Texas because a police officer thought he saw explosives in his vehicle. What he saw was a doggie chew toy for our Great Dane. My husband and the officer both got a good laugh when the officer realized what it was. Edited March 2, 2023 by Eli_6 1

In Galveston they sniffed everyone as you walked past, but I didn't see the dog alert on anyone.
Rare Eli_6 Posted March 2, 2023 #34 Share Posted March 2, 2023 As an aside, my Diet Dr. Pepper got searched for the first time EVER in 10+ cruises on my recent Galveston sailing so I think they are all around being stricter on security. Or, either that, it was because my husband went through security with my DDP (whereas I normally carry it) and he looks more unsavory than I do. On the panorama out of Long Beach (B2B in Feb) everyone about to board was searched. They had about 30 in line between ropes, you set your carry on bags to the right side and then they asked you to step back. One dog went down the line twice, then another dog did the same thing. We were lucky to have early boarding with platinum but i imagine it would have slowed things down later as more people were coming through. Perhaps they weren't as thorough later on

One walked by us in Galveston in January. It alerted on my DW, and we were told to just keep walking.

Last cruise out of Port Canaveral my Neutrogena spray on sunscreen got a thorough body cavity search. Not sure how you would hide something in there. But it's pretty easy to tell if something doesn't have an aerosol in it or has a false bottom. She spent a good amount of time on it and didn't even bother to look at anything else in the bag. Also, it went through the scanner so if there had been anything hidden in there it would have been visible I would assume, unless the scanners can't see inside metal...which would be insane. Just seems really odd. And all of this talk of "drug dogs" yet where are all the stories of people getting arrested or having their things confiscated? It makes me think we do not really know exactly what they are looking for.

Tink10 Posted March 3, 2023 #41 Share Posted March 3, 2023 We were on the 2/14 Miracle sailing and there was so much pot smoking on the balconies. I was honestly stunned, because while I have no problem with people partaking legally....On the ship was just really not good. As a side note, we also smelled cannabis vape pens in the casino & nothing was said to anyone in any area it was coming from.
Rare shof515 Posted March 3, 2023 #42 Share Posted March 3, 2023 At Tampa when boarding the paradise, they had dogs in the terminal. They had a line and you had to walk past the dog
