Rare POA1 Posted March 3, 2023 #1 Share Posted March 3, 2023 Does the Dive In still feature Dutch items at lunch? I have no idea what made me think of it, but sometimes the heart wants what the heart wants. (Cholesterol!)
janmcn Posted March 3, 2023 #2 Share Posted March 3, 2023 Huh? I think you’re thinking of The Dutch Cafe on Pinnacle Class ships. Dive-in is burgers and hotdogs.
ger_77 Posted March 3, 2023 #3 Share Posted March 3, 2023 Sorry, @POA1, you just get to choose from hamburgers, hot dogs, or veggie burgers. No Dutch food.
Rare dogo88 Posted March 3, 2023 #4 Share Posted March 3, 2023 Not that I am aware of on the cruises we took in 2022. Unless you call hotdogs, hamburgers, sausage and fake meat Dutch?
dfish Posted March 3, 2023 #5 Share Posted March 3, 2023 I remember getting bitterballen from the Dive In on the old Rotterdam back in 2019, pre pandemic. I haven't been on a ship that doesn't have the Grand Dutch Cafe lately, so I haven't checked. I was surprised when I saw that I could get bitterballen there. So the answer is maybe.
CruiserBruce Posted March 3, 2023 #6 Share Posted March 3, 2023 Don't recall Dive In having anything other than burgers fries and hot dogs...and we are big fans of Dive IN.
Rare POA1 Posted March 3, 2023 Author #7 Share Posted March 3, 2023 (edited) They used to have Bitterballen and Frikandellen on occasion. We've never been on a ship with a Dutch Café, but I had seen them on the Vista and Pinnacle class. Possibly on the R & S class as well. doone Posted March 3, 2023 #8 Share Posted March 3, 2023 I never saw anything but burgers, hot dogs, veggie burgers and I think a chicken sandwich.....
vicd1969 Posted March 3, 2023 #9 Share Posted March 3, 2023 The closest is if you are on an European itinerary, the fries in the Dive In are made like the thicker cut Dutch fries, and not the american style thinner cut with its yummy coated batter. SilvertoGold Posted March 3, 2023 #10 Share Posted March 3, 2023 Way back before the Dive-In existed HAL had a burger bar forward of the mid-ship pool. What was that called? Terrace Grill?? That was where we found a few mostly dreep-fried Dutch treats.
OlsSalt Posted March 3, 2023 #11 Share Posted March 3, 2023 Ask for mayonnaise with your Dive in Fries, and you have "Dutch food". Amsterdam, in the 1960's, is where I first saw French fries with mayo from little stands all over town, That was when I was forced to realize pomme frites were far more continental, than ubiquitous American.

The Dutch health food carried over initially.
