Judygoox Posted March 22, 2023 #1 Share Posted March 22, 2023 Our travel agent says that celebrity will not allow us to leave the ship one day early, but to ask when we get on board if we may. One of our party lives in France and we can disembark and go to her house to visit her family. What would the repercussions be if we left with no permission? Arizona Wildcat Posted March 22, 2023 #2 Share Posted March 22, 2023 (edited) Downlining is no longer allowed. Covid ended the practice. No exceptions except if arrival using FBC is delayed thus allowing boarding at another port. If you left early you would be likely banned from cruising with RCL and pay a fee. Pre Covid was $65pp. Don't do it. It would likely violate French immigration law as well. Taking a train or ferry from the final port would be a much better idea. TMLAalum Posted March 22, 2023 #3 Share Posted March 22, 2023 From this thread's title I envisioned the OP having a long swim ashore!
dcbiker97 Posted March 22, 2023 #4 Share Posted March 22, 2023 (edited) Well one issue is that you’d be illegally entering France. I’d think that would’ve be enough. Edited March 22, 2023 by dcbiker97
Rare Essiesmom Posted March 22, 2023 #5 Share Posted March 22, 2023 What is your itinerary? You would not be illegally entering France, nor would there be customs/immigration if your previous port is a Schengen country. What has been denied - but not illegal - may become permitted again. EM It will likely be permitted in the future when covid is over. We have downlined in the past. Advance notice was required in order to have customs and immigration in place even if the cruise began and never left Schengen countries. Made little sense but many laws & rules do not. Lastdance Posted March 22, 2023 #7 Share Posted March 22, 2023 (edited) We wanted to disembark in Naples rather than Civi; Celebrity said “no.” So, we have a longer trip to Sorrento for our Airbnb. It is what it is. Yes, Covid was part of the reason for this. Edited March 22, 2023 by Lastdance

Thank you for your reply. Now I understand that if our previous port was Portugal or France then departing the ship later in France would not be illegal. That, unfortunately, is not the case on this cruise.

Our last stop before Rome was Florence. Two couples left in Florence.

I believe that was possible since they are both Schengen countries.
