RollWave Posted April 4, 2023 #1 Share Posted April 4, 2023 We are on the April 5th sailing. Wondering if it is going to crowded or a light sailing. How would we go about finding out? Having some anxiety about dinner reservations, show reservations etc... We were not able to do anything with the APP and are hoping that once on board it will all work out.
Rare cantgetin Posted April 4, 2023 #2 Share Posted April 4, 2023 OK, the cruise has probably been taken off line, so your agent cannot find out how many cabins are available AND if you call VV, the agent on the phone won't be able to see it. That leaves reading the tablet upside down at check in. The tablet will show check in XYZ of QRS. The second number is the number booked. The first number is the number who have checked in. Alternatives to get bookings....as soon as you are on board, try to book whatever reservations you want on the app. If the app goes wonky, you can go to the red desk on 7 to book shore things and you can go to the individual restaurants to make reservations there. Usually the app works fine after boarding, Since there are 2 of us, we each take one task--one will book dinners while the other will book shore things, spa, or whatever we need. You may have to wait till shortly before 6 to go to the restaurants. They do open about 35% of reservations at boarding. We go to our room and drop our carry ons....then we go to The Galley and work on reservations while we wait for the food. What I do know is that there are supposedly 4 cruises in April that have been taken off line even though it is not time to do that yet because VV had declared them "full." I know that my upcoming cruise is supposedly 82% full and they are not booking any more. What I don't know is whether that is 2200+ cruisers (82% of 2700) or 82% of cabins booked (because there can be 1 person in a 2 person cabin or 2 people in a 3 or 4 person cabin. The number won't vary much either way; it puts us at 2000-2200 best guess, 10 days ago they were saying we were at 1800 with 4 cabins open, so they've added a lot as the cruise nears.
babalooo Posted April 4, 2023 #3 Share Posted April 4, 2023 Just ask any of the bartenders on board. They know the head count of pax on the ship.

Absolutely, all departments have staff meetings on embarkation day before the doors open. There are schedule changes and such based on number of passengers....so any forward facing crew member will know the number.

That's what I do on every ship. The bartenders are always the best folks to ask how many people are really on the ship. Our very first cruise back from the pandemic we had only 1800 on the NCL Escape, a ship built for over 4000 pax. It was glorious. 🙂 Edited April 4, 2023 by CruisingWalter
Rare 1025cruise Posted April 4, 2023 #6 Share Posted April 4, 2023 At this point, I always assume the ship is sailing at full load.

It was very enjoyable in a different sort of way, but I wouldn't want all my cruises like that. I'm assuming our Valiant Lady this weekend will feel much livelier. aqlollipop Posted April 4, 2023 #8 Share Posted April 4, 2023 I'll be on board with you on the 5th! And I'm in the same boat with reservations. My plan is to just have my phone ready to jump on that ship wifi as soon as we board and just take it on then. I'm not sweating too much because I know walk ups are always a thing too and there's always a lot of switching around that happens. My last cruise I went in with nothing on the last night and it stayed that way accidentally, we ended up walking up and it worked out. I know it depends on ship capacity and bunch of other variables, but it's vacation, so I'm trying to go in with the mindset that it'll be ok whatever happens! We'll have a great cruise!
Funsince1983 Posted April 4, 2023 #9 Share Posted April 4, 2023 Will also be on board, last I checked it was pretty full, let me see if I can still check. Currently in the air en route to FLL then to Miami. We have dinner ressies every night though. nope.. can't check. Last I had looked everything was sold out but sea terraces and there weren't a ton. I'd expect close to capacity.
jcarter4551 Posted April 4, 2023 #10 Share Posted April 4, 2023 I booked through the casino recently on a casino comp and when I booked he indicated it was sailing almost full. I don't know what that means or if he was full of [blank] to get me to commit. I hope its at least 2000 though but do hope y'all get your reservations once on board. I will see you all tomorrow on board!!
