nascartim Posted April 10, 2023 #1 Share Posted April 10, 2023 Just sailed MG last week, surprise, table minimums are now $15. Was on MG 2 months ago, they were $10, which I wasn't even expecting that. Anyway, is this fleet wide or just the bigger ships? I still played and had fun. Carnival is definitely implementing it's plan on recouping some lost revenue. I'm afraid to book another cruise on her too soon, with my luck. mz-s Posted April 10, 2023 #2 Share Posted April 10, 2023 Hopefully just a ship-by-ship thing...I won't play near as much with $15 minimums... Some months ago folks reported $10 minimums on their cruises but there were still $6 minimum tables on my Sunshine cruise around the same time. Maybe Carnival is trying to test these things on a ship-by-ship basis. I know just before the shutdown, the Sunshine's roulette table had a 000 position but tha went away during the restart. All these price hikes and cuts in quality, Carnival is really challenging the notion of cruising being the best value vacation.
Rare KarmaCruisers Posted April 10, 2023 #3 Share Posted April 10, 2023 Damn even $10 is a shock to me..every CCL cruise I’ve been on has had $5 “carny” games and $6 “super unfun 21” STRANGELY though; when I looked at the computer (while I was playing UTH) I noticed that the COMPUTER has the minimums all at $10-$50 (instead of $5-$25) so basically if you were playing stone cold minimum of $5 you were actually getting a better comp rate. (However we played at $25, and they still rated us for the $10 computer minimum haha)
happy cruzer Posted April 10, 2023 #4 Share Posted April 10, 2023 Isn't the casino contracted out? Does CCL get any per bet revenue? Thanks.

Rare Thenagers Posted April 10, 2023 #6 Share Posted April 10, 2023 I was on and found plenty of $10 blackjack tables. $5 ultimate, let it ride and 3 card. I do know the craps table was $15 though, Did not try roulette. I only gambled on the non smoking side.

So you can bet $5 on each like you used to do $5 on BJ slot and $1 bonus. All the bonuses on Mardis gras have either a $5 or $10 option. It really adds up on the carne games but you will be kicking yourself if you hit simething and not betting it!
BrotherCraig Posted April 10, 2023 #8 Share Posted April 10, 2023 I always thought it depended on the time of day. Maybe not.
nascartim Posted April 10, 2023 Author #9 Share Posted April 10, 2023 I was playing mostly craps which was always $15. I played BJ one day and it was also $15. I didn't pay close attention to any of the other tables.
lesters Posted April 10, 2023 #10 Share Posted April 10, 2023 Is this on the Celebration as well or only Mardi Gras? Our last two cruises - Horizon and Magic - had the lower table limits - $5 craps etc.
Rare BlerkOne Posted April 10, 2023 #11 Share Posted April 10, 2023 The casino has to pay for all the discounted cabins they give away somehow.

They're not making any money, in fact losing, according to the latest numbers and still have over $30 billion in debt. Carnival needs to be more discriminating in who gets free/discounted cabins and increase onboard spend.

I'm just saying they are positioning themselves to start making some of that money back. I'm sure the casino will help them immensely with these recent increases, and I expect more are coming. I expect we won't see the old days of $5 tables much longer, if there are even any still out there. The casino is doing their part in helping get that money back. And they can still offer discounted rooms to entice gamblers to spend even more, I know I for sure did my part.
hapytobehr Posted April 10, 2023 #15 Share Posted April 10, 2023 (edited) Celebration still had Let it Ride, Three Card Poker, Heads up and some blackjack at $5 minimum 2 weeks ago AND it was an Elite cruise Edited April 10, 2023 by hapytobehr

The casino offers certainly helped get the cash flow going when cruising restarted and the casinos are part of continuing operations, but optimization won't hurt. Carnival needs to consider all areas for cost containment. The Wild West is over.
pikeman56 Posted April 10, 2023 #17 Share Posted April 10, 2023 Are there any live poker tables on the Mardi Gras or Celebration? Last time I sailed on the Breeze, all the poker tables were electronic.
Gamecock_Cruiser Posted April 10, 2023 #18 Share Posted April 10, 2023 Well this really sucks! this is one of the big things that differentiated us cruising VS Vegas. Does anyone know the minimum amounts on the Elation? We cruise July 1st. Hopefully they are still $6 then.
dallasdan Posted April 10, 2023 #19 Share Posted April 10, 2023 No live dealers on Carnival cruises. Miracle removed the electronic Texas Hold EM table so no poker on the Miracle.
hard_eight Posted April 10, 2023 #20 Share Posted April 10, 2023 $15 minimum for craps should be criminal. Basic slow roll strategy has you betting $81. $15 come out, $30 odds, $18 each on 6&8. Add 5&9 and you're over $100. Unreal and not fun to play. May as well just stand there chucking greens on horn bets.

For most bets, it’s $15 minimum (pass line, place, etc). But I believe you need to have total of $15 to bet. Meaning, can’t just throw out a $1 hard 8 and that’s it.

I see you’re a roulette player..roulette is literally the only table game with odd rules like that. every other game, if you make a bet anywhere it’s gotta be the table minimum (sans “bonus” bets, those usually are only $1)
