which airline and which airport canceled the flight? according to flightaware, there is no canceled flights between BOS and MIA for today

I just looked at flight aware, and there’s a canceled flight between BOS and FLL on Jetblue that was scheduled to land at 9:03am. My bet is that this is the OP’s flight.

He'll need to book & purchase the return flight also, because when he is a no-show to the original outbound flight (even though it's been cancelled and rebooked) his return flight is auto-cancelled.

That depends on how the new flight was booked. If the airline rebooks because of a cancelled flight the reservation confirmation #s don't change and the remaining parts of the reservation would remain intact.

But he wants the ship to wait….. he should be able to get to port for 4:45

Unfortunately, the cruise line is under no obligation to wait for him, and in many cases they won’t. However, if a flight that the cruise line is using for their air program is delayed or canceled, and there are a lot of cruisers on that flight, they may make the decision to delay the departure to accommodate those passengers if they’ll be arriving at a reasonable time that won’t impact the rest of the itinerary.

This happened on Carnival, but I have friends who’d purchased flights and transfers through the cruise line and their delayed flight arrived in MIA at departure time. They were met at baggage claim by a cruise line representative who waited while they got their luggage and escorted them to an awaiting bus. The bus was full with delayed passengers. On that instance, the cruise line did wait for them. Their first port of call the next day was Key West so I guess they figured they could hold the ship a few hours without impacting their arrival the following day.

Once again, the cruise line is under no obligation, and them holding the ship shouldn’t be expected. Best of luck and if you have time, come back to tell us what happened.

Just an update….. flew out of Providence RI on Southwest 12:30 landed at 3:30 in Fort lunderdale, took a Uber to cruise port…… they closed the door behind him………

Ship leaving time was 5:30, he was so upset that he told me 4pm

he was by himself, his wife flew in from a business trip in Texas to Miami…. Other family members on other flights left Boston no problem. He went to check in and they said his flight was canceled…. They had nothing to get him there by 5:30, they sent him over to delta… but they told him they have nothing.

Just a FYI…. Flying with NCL arranged packages……. You are on your own….. if your flights cancels.

They do nothing to help the situation, and will not hold the ship at all.

It was a united airline flight that was canceled ….. in Boston…..

He allowed NCL to take care of everything because he thought he was in good hands….. not the case….. now he will have to fight for getting his refund back from NCL for the airfare part of his cruise. He had to pay his own flight expense to get there….. all in all he will sleeping on the ship tonight

when I talked to him on board the ship….. he was having his 1st double for the sail away.

When he get home, I will remind him, always fly out the day before!!!

we have been on many cruises, we always leave one or two days before…

Happened to our kid’s Thanksgiving. NCL and American couldn’t care less. Never book through the ship. The discount isn’t worth the aggravation. Six months later their insurance refunded half the money. They drove all night from Atlanta to Miami to get to the ship on time. And they had planned to come in the day before.

To be fair, if the OP’s son had booked that flight themselves would find himself in the same situation. The only reason to book flights through NCL is to save $, it doesn’t make it safer if flights are delayed or canceled.

So glad he made it! I recently had a ton of flight issues and had to book a list minute ticket on American because Delta cancelled my flights. I was coming in the day before, so had some wiggle room, but I had to be very proactive and find my own alternate flights because Delta was no help.

I never book flights through the cruise line because I want to have the power to select my own flights and be in complete control of my itinerary.

When it comes to air, no matter how screwed up things get, you're MUCH better off having booked your own flights.  Cruiselines generally book fares at a discount, so the airlines aren't very enthusiastic about helping a pax with a cancelled flight.  They're hard enough to get along with as it is these days, but a third-party booking just allows them to not do anything at all.

True but then the airline does try to help you. This way they pass the buck.

That's 100% wrong. The airline is responsible for re-accommodating you. There is no buck to pass. The only thing that booking through NCL does is save money.

YAY! I was speed reading this thread just to find out what happened. So glad he made it, just in time! What an experience. Whew!

And yes, within 72 hours, the airline needs to work with you. That's what happened in my experience...thankfully, my drama was after the cruise, not before!

Anyway, thank you for updating us on the situation and I hope the cruise is going swimmingly!

Not actually true....if booked through a third party (like NCL) the airline then has the opportunity to push the problem back onto the TA (NCL). If the ticket is bought directly through the airline, they will do their best to accommodate either with their airline or with an airline they have agreements with and can put you on another airline to get you where you are going. I am quite familiar with the process, as I worked for one of the major airlines and it was done ALL the time!!

Very true. There's no difference to booking on your own, or booking through the cruise line, the only exception is that people expect the cruise line to help them (much the way a travel agent would). Still a crappy situation to be in either way.

When my flights have been cancelled or needed to be rebooked at the last minute, there was absolutely no pushback.  Have always gotten exactly the same treatment as the person next to me, even though they booked on their own and my booking was done through NCL.

Well, I guess you are one of the lucky ones. There is a reason for the threads complaining about NCL air. I don't see any threads raving about them!

respectfully, there's a bit of a straw man switcheroo there.

nobody said there weren't a lot of threads complaining about NCL. nobody said there weren't good reasons for not using NCL air. but airlines refusal to deal with NCL "distressed travelers" (industry term) is not one of them.

in post #45 you said that "if booked through a third party (like NCL) the airline then has the opportunity to push the problem back onto the TA (NCL)." and that's the point that some folks are - understandably - disagreeing with... because it's simply not true.

if there are many distressed travelers, all of whom have been inconvenienced, the scene at the gate is chaos. you should wait in line, but simultaneously call the airline. invariably, the phone agent will help you and rebook you before you reach the front of the line. time is of the essence. seats on other flights or other airlines may be limited. the only thing that can really help to make this situation easier is to have status with the airline. you'll get preferential treatment. but if you have status on the airline, you're probably using frequent flyer miles for your flights and are not an NCL air customer anyway.

in any case, regardless of how you booked your flight, it is the airline's sole responsibility to rebook you and accommodate you while you're in the terminal with a ticket to one of their flights.

julig22 wasn't lucky... this sort of thing happens every day!

Not lucky, I've had my share of mishaps with delays and cancellations. Some on NCL booked flights, some I've booked on my own. But that's not on NCL. It's on the airline. And something clearly stated in the terms.
