Custom Shore Excursion

Will Celebrity put together a custom shore excursion for you? And if so, can you pay for it with OBC?

 

I’m looking at a family cruise where between the three cabins we should have at least $2,200 of onboard credit. I thought it might be nice to charter a boat at one of the ports and use up some of the OBC.

Which ports will you be visiting? When is your cruiise?

They usually have private shore excursions available.   Those are pretty much only limited by time.

Completely custom are a problem thru Celebrity because of insurance.

If much of your OBC is from your TA it will be refundable.

Yes, Celebrity offers a custom shorex experience branded as "Private Journeys"  Here is the link: https://www.celebritycruises.com/shore-excursions/private-journeys.  

 

I don't know if OBC can be used to pay for this or not.

 

The one disadvantage (to me) is that you will pay a pretty good mark up for something that you could arrange yourself (e.g. chartering a boat)--but I know that you are hoping to burn some OBC.

We used OBC for a Private Journey that Celebrity helped arrange. One of our favorite excursions we’ve ever done. I’m sure there was a markup but it was an all day event & we didn’t want to take a chance on getting back to the ship late.

We are going with 4 others on a Private Journeys excursion for an overnight in Sri Lanka.   It is pricey but we will be 5 hours away from the port and we have the assurance of the ship not leaving without us or getting us to the next port.  I don’t recall having the option to use OBC but I wasn’t the point person with PJ.  We did have to pay the full cost when we booked.

Convert your OBC to cash in the casino and book your own tour direct with the supplier. That should give you complete control and a lower price/better value.

I checked on this recently and you can only use OBC from 1 cabin/stateroom and the rest is charged to credit card.

Once you are on the ship, you can move the onboard credit from one person’s account to another’s.  I don’t believe you can do that before the cruise so yes, the entire cost would go to one account if you book it pre-cruise, meaning you could not pool all the OBC until you are actually on board.
