Have they began to roll this out?  My understanding was that it was planned for Q1 of 2023.  Have any recent cruisers seen sports betting, or any evidence that it's coming soon?

Where did you see this?

As with the 3 links above, a lot of what I was seeing was from last summer.  I didn't find anything recent to speak of.  I'd imagine the roll-out is newsworthy enough, so no news may not be good news in this case, if you're wanting the sports betting to come sooner rather than later.

Now if only you could watch the games on board that you want to bet on.  We love spending time in the Vegas sports books... would love a similar experience on board.

On our Horizon sailing the sports bar was much too small for the number of people wanting to watch the NFL games that were on.   With channels so limited it was packed  - believe me I am not looking for more TV options in my cabin - but I wish while on board there were more and larger where they exist - places to catch the games.

I'd imagine with the rollout of sports betting, some sort of increased sports viewing will be part of it.  I am wondering if the roll out is somehow how hinging on starlink installations.

No, Carnival can receive DirecTV television throughout most of their cruise itineraries. It's just a matter of them paying to carry the channels.

Youtube TV (Google) has NFL Sunday Ticket now and who knows what they will charge for businesses to show games. I think it was super expensive for a bar to show Sunday Ticket with Direct TV. It's also super expensive for them to show PPV Boxing or UFC events. I don't doubt the streaming capability of Starlink so internet speed should not be the issue.

As much as Google had to pay to steal the Ticket away from DirecTV, hell yeah they'll be charging businesses...LOL

I haven't heard anything recently about sports betting coming to Carnival anytime soon. However, sister line Princess has had sports betting onboard through its app since the restart.

Hopefully Carnival will follow in Princess' footsteps sooner rather than later.  I wouldn't mind an additional degenerate type of activity while cruising!

Would Carnival possibly set up a dedicated space for it within the casino? If so, Venezia might be the first with it simply because she is in drydock. That's not to say the installation couldn't be completed while a ship is in service (especially during a port heavy itinerary), but I'm sure it's easier to handle without guests onboard.

If the space that's lIsted to have Heroes Bar is an indicator, there won't be an adequate area to view the games with such an anticipated volume of people.    And from the report I've read on the newly reappointed Luminosa, there's no sports bar whatsoever.

Interesting phrasing in that DirecTV didn't want ST any longer, so they didn't quite STEAL it from them.  They MIGHT have stolen it from Apple however, who was the front runner until they dropped out.  I'm not convinced that sports betting on cruise ships is a good idea.  But I guess there are enough who do.

Direct TV is in serious trouble as a company. Their model is dated and they are not gaining new subscribers. Sunday Ticket was one of the last reason to have Direct TV

It seems odd to me that summer 2022 had a bunch of stories on sports betting coming to Carnival ships, with some referencing Q1, 2023.  Now, in 2023, there's nothing on it (that I can find, at least).  You figure this would be newsworthy, on some level, with all of the cruise ship bloggers, vloggers, reporters, media etc. etc. etc. , if it was in fact "coming soon".

Don't want to take this extremely off topic, but DirecTV is owned primarily by AT&T thought 30% is owned by another company that has taken over the management.  They made a financial decision to jettison Sunday Ticket as it was bleeding them money.  I agree with you that the model is broken and they are trying some new things, but ST wasn't going to help them make money.
