Of course at Southampton you would have no problem at all.

What do you mean by this?  Our next Princess cruise is out of Southampton and would love to bring more than 2 bottles since it is a long cruise.

If it is a standard wine bottle, most crew staffing the table won’t know the difference between “regular” wine and fortified wine. When embarking, the table often isn’t set up yet for early arrivals and you will only get corkage grief when trying to open the thing outside of your stateroom. In port, the table isn’t well-enforced.

Just don’t get cute and hand a case off to the stevedore. I used to be able to do that with no problem, paying corkage onboard in the dining rooms. After twelve bottles had to be negotiated for—individually—on a cruise when that sort of insanity was a little too much for the circumstances, we walk on the very special bottles. We have drink packages and don’t avoid corkage so it’s not like we are trying to get one over on the line; we just like great wine that they don’t tend to carry.

Princess is in a weird spot and I hope they get their “stuff” together. Walk on your wine bottles with pride.

You may bring all the wine you can carry aboard.

According to Princess policy you each adult is allowed to carry on one 750ml bottle of wine which they may consume in their cabin at their leisure.  If they take that bottle to a restaurant or dining room, they will be charged a corkage charge of $20.  Bottles in excess of the one per adult will be charged the $20 corkage at the pier.  A sticker will be attached to those bottles so that they can be taken to a restaurant or dining room without incurring a further charge.

Many posters have reported that they have been able to board without paying the corkage charge at the pier.  Obviously, this is contrary to Princess' published policy, but it does not imply anything insidious by the passengers nor does it imply a local policy that supersedes Princess' global policy.  If two travelers carry on four bottles of wine and do not pay the corkage charge at the pier, they can certainly enjoy all four bottles in their cabin.  If they take one of those bottles to dinner one evening, Princess will charge the corkage fee at the dining venue.

If, however, those two travelers carry on four bottles of wine, are stopped at the pier and required to sign for a $40 corkage charge for the two extra bottles, stating that "I read on Cruise Critic that I don't have to pay corkage at this port" will be ineffective.
