Unadvertised internet special: $100 unlimited with 10days left on cruise

I'm in 14day cruise and am on the next to last day.

Bumped into someone today who is on the cruise Facebook group and she mentioned she got the $100 unlimited special on day 4. (She was at the Internet mgr because she accidently left her internet connection on.)

So $10/day! 😮

This is the 1st time I've heard of this special and it was not mentioned in the Daily's.

So if you're on a long cruise, ask your internet mgr about that.

edit:

When i activated my promo 300 internet minutes on day2, there was no screen offering an upgrade to unlimited with trade in of the promo minutes.

it was immediately redeemed.

All my other cruises, whether 10 day or 14day, there was always a 2nd screen offering the option to upgrade to unlimited with trade in.

edit2:

Since the $100 internet is a outright purchase and not an upgrade, maybe the 25% Platinum/Diamond internet discount applies?

Knowing ncl, probably not since it's a special.

300 promo min:

$130 upgrade day2, $100 upgrade unlimited premium day3.

No additional discounts after day  3

I'm going to assume not to activate your  minutes till day 3. You should get the upgrade screen when you try to activate your minutes

Hi @fstuff1

How many vegetables have you eaten on this cruise so far??🤣

Can you explain why waiting til day 3 to activate minutes is beneficial?  I do want to upgrade to unlimited internet but should I use the 150 free minutes first?

... What has NCL done to you?   🤣.

sorry I couldn’t resist.  Your info will help others…thanks.

Ahhhh ... be nice & kind to him.  Give one of our fellow CC and NCL mate a break, we're on one of the cruise together with others last year, as I recall.   Whatever "older" mid-sized ship he's now on, they must've shut down the casino and he isn't occupied with the gaming action but apparently, okay with being on Deck 4 ... I'm going to make an informed guess, being port side Fwd/Mid ship 😁   🤣   👴

This unadvertised WiFi special for only $100 for 10 days is a good deal, IMHO, especially given how bad & slow the satellite connectivity has been for most, not worthy of - IMHO - spending or paying anything more or at a higher daily rate.  If and when they bring on Starlink "Express" in 2024, then, we "shall" see.

Yes, always be nice to fstuff!

@fstuff1 so do I just go to the internet manager on day 3 and tell him you sent me there?

I forgot to tell you that on the last cruise I convinced the bartender to give me a shot of Chambord!

For me, I'm not activating my promo minutes till day 3 (tomorrow).

When I activate, it'll take me to an upsell screen first.

There should be an option to upgrade to unlimited for $x.

If I don't see that upsell screen or the $100 price tag, then I'm going to the internet mgr. (She's the one that told me day 3 was $100.)

In the past, the unlimited internet discount was only to day 2 so this would be a recent change.

The day3 discount might only be for longer cruises where you get 300 promo minutes instead of 150.

(When I was on a 14(?) Day Breakaway cruise last Nov, I was not told of a day3 discount)

Haven't run into you lately, I trust all is well with you posting goood stuff for us, everything going well - are you "working" hard to get close to reaching Ambassador status yet 😉 😉 😉

Anyway, is this new deal an official or unofficial, at the iCafe manager's discretion or what not.  We have a 11 nighters coming up with sea days but the ship has a horrible reputation, as reported by others lately, of the worst among the worst within the NCL fleet.  Not planning to "waste" those non-refundable OBC to upgrade to unlimited ... but for $100, I would consider doing it & keep DW happy.

Any gossips about Starlink's rolling out ... anytime sooner than 2024 on ships, aside from being on the Breakaway (currently)  Stay under the radar and maybe we'll run into each other soon this Fall.  Take care and best regards - H

Curious to know what the worst of the worst NCL ship for internet is 🤣

In all seriousness, it's important to note that an internet connection to the satellite from the ship (aka starlink) is only fraction of the battle. The actual ship's wifi, routers, switches, etc is hugely important to solid and reliable service on your device.

A lot of lines will stick on a better satellite, but the network may not be able to handle to the bandwidth.

We were recently on the Celebrity Infinity (an older ship), but the internet had just been upgraded to Starlink. People were so excited, but Starlink proved to be atrocious. After the ship's gut renovation was called off during the pandemic, the infrastructure and WiFi on the ship never got updated... so we were stuck with a network that was unable to function properly.

I think Princess is the only line that has refit their entire fleet with modern networks, for the implementation of Ocean Medallion internet and the RFID services.

it's 6:45am local time.

i now have 10days 5 hrs and change of unlimited basic.

i guess i could have upgraded at 12:01am local time to have 10 1/2 days internet but i was asleep.

so apparently, when the cruise has 10days left AND you have 300 promo minutes, the price drops to $100 upgrade.

No idea about shorter cruises and 150min promo

Another evidence of $99 upgrade to unlimited internet. The speed for basic plan is super slow though.

Google speedtest:

3megs down is perfectly acceptable to me for my purposes of email and facebook.

i am currently somewhere off the coast of scotland but speedtest connected to dallas, usa?

i guess the internet satellite is currently over Texas?

A data point - I had 250 free minutes (pre FAS change) on a 10 day cruise. Saving was 125 instead of 200 and also lasted through the third day.

I did not need to prevent activating my minutes to see it but I was always logging in via the app on my phone and it would pop up every login. Causing me to notice it was rapidly getting cheaper.

The reason day three is cheapest is because the discount is fixed but the daily rate drops proportionally. I was kind of curious if it was going to go free at a certain point not realizing it was limited to 3 days.

The ideal way to go about it is burn through minutes for the first three days then upgrade. I’m suspicious it’s limited to longer cruises.

Interesting, under the old FAS program, you can activate your promo minutes and STILL take advantage of the upgrade a couple of days later?

Under the current FAS program, i've never had a pop up to upgrade AFTER i;ve already activated my 150 promo minutes

Were you doing it strictly on your phone, by turning on the internet within the NCL app and not your internet browser? That’s my only idea of what I was doing perhaps differently.

Any updates on this?

As we'll be on an 11-day soon, and really want the unlimited upgrade. I just need to know if it's OK to use any of our 250 group promo minutes first.

Any updates on this? See question above. Thanks!

my cruise last month was the 1st time i got an upgrade offer AFTER i started using my min.

so something has changed in ncl computers.

could be just my ship? (1st time i was on the Star)

i say go use it.

worse case scenario, goto the internet mgr on day 2 (or later) and upgrade.

Let us know what happened. (and what ship)

Interesting enough, on a 11day cruise, the unlimited upgrade price dropped till day 9.

Next time i do a 12 day cruise, i'm going to try waiting till 9 days left and see if the price drops to $69.90. ($30 less)

Heck, if you can upgrade while using the 300 promo minutes, even better to wait till day 9

3 days??

so day 7 was cheapest for your 10day cruise?

($30 x 7) - $125 = $85?

on my 11 day cruise, day 9 (2 days) was cheapest.

wouldnt go any cheaper after that.
