Anyone currently on Westerdam?

We are sailing on Westerdam June 26th. We had reserved a family cabana. I just received an email stating the “cabanas had sustained some damage and are currently unavailable” and they have cancelled our reservation l. Seems odd that ALL the cabanas would receive damage. I mean it is possible but the odds 🤷🏼‍♀️. Maybe a staffing shortage? Is there anyone currently onboard that can confirm stated damage?

One might assume, it repairs are required for some cabanas, it would most efficiently handled to have access to the entire area to get any possible repairs done as quickly as possible. Plus those who did pay for the retreat cabana experience would be perhaps negatively impacted by the necessary ongoing repairs as well. 

 

Hope you can learn more about what exactly happened to them. Hard to speculate what needs to be done at this point.  Nor can some repairs be made on the fly with whatever materials are available on board the ship at the time. Might need special ordering, Or might be something that requires waiting until the next dry dock. All unknown at this time.

I agree.  I don’t think it would be a good situation.  The westerdam had a rough ride for several days going into Alaska.  If hal could rent out those cabanas they would.  That’s pretty good income for them.  I have very little doubt if they were functional that hal would pull whatever “manpower” they would need from the crew.

These are the cabanas up on the top deck, right? If so, yes, they were damaged last week. We hit some extreme wind one night.

Not on the Westerdam. I believe they are only on Lido Deck around the Lido Pool. But someone could correct me if I am wrong.

As far as I know the only ships that have lido cabanas are the na and eurodam.  The westerdam definitely has retreat.  I have had one.

That is suspicious.  I wonder if you are on to something.  Years ago the noordam cabanas suffered problems.  There was damage and they have gotten rid of them even though I’ve been told I’m wrong.  I had someone confirm they are no longer there and she confirmed that (noordam). I wonder if they weren’t getting used that much and the damage extensive so they thought let’s cut our loses.

Thanks I guess I was thinking of NA and Eurodam, I actually have not been on a Vista Class for quite a few years, mostly NA and Eurodam the last several/ I guess I was thinking Vista Class was the same since I know that Pinnacle Class is totall different.

We had a Retreat cabana on the Westerdam for 30 days in  2018.

Why would you want a Cabana up in Alaska? It's pretty cold while the ship is moving. It can be very uncomfortable even sitting out on your balcony when the ship is moving.

Me either.  I just like a cabana so much.  It was kind of a weird set up. They had this cupboard kind of thing on the side of each cabana.  Really odd.  That was a few years back.  Hopefully it was taken out.

The Retreat.. that's what I was thinking of. Yes, that area had some damage last week on Westerdam.

We used to live in Finland and slept with a window open for fresh air even in the dead of winter so the cold isn't a bother to us. Last summer on our Alaskan cruise we had a NS and spent quite a bit of time on our balcony especially in glacier bay. Also, on our Alaskan cruise in 2018 it was so hot we wore shorts and capris most of the time on our balcony. With Alaska the weather varies a lot. This cruise we opted for a casino offer and got a free inside cabin so were hoping for a little dedicated outdoor space.

News to us…. No in room breakfast IF you are disembarking, & not continuing on next cruise!

Lack of breakfast room service on disembarkation is the least of the reasons!! Too many issues to list !!!

We got off the Westerdam Sunday and the only thing I noticed was that the Lido buffet was pretty busy at times.  Food was good (not exceptional) and service was prompt. Our room steward was exceptional.   We had  been on Princess in March and will pick HAL before them in the future.

Sailing in mid-July and our Cabana was also canceled… not quite sure how long it takes to fix a cabana.  Disappointed

We are too 😔. Kind of baffling given some of the people who responded here🤷.
