From our summer 2019 experience on Silver Muse, yes, Sitka is a fairly small port that is not visited by many cruise ships. Good news!! We super loved this port and all that we experienced and did. This included a private, charter boat for the four of us that allowed seeing many, many birds, wildlife, whales and more whales, etc., etc. Need proof and evidence? See below just a few visuals. More on the live/blog connected below. Any other questions for Sitka? THANKS! Enjoy! Terry in Ohio Summer 2019 Calgary, Jasper/Banff National Parks, Western Canada Rocky Mountaineer rail adventure, Vancouver, sailing up to Alaska on Silver Muse, post-cruise excursion to Denali, etc. Many visuals, Our firsts in these scenic areas! Seeing wildlife in this port is very possible in this port area. Here is a small sample for what we experienced from our private charter, including with the puffins, eagle, whales action, etc. etc.:
Rare Lois R Posted May 31, 2023 #4 Share Posted May 31, 2023 Hi Terry, great photos. I love Sitka too. The downtown area is really nice as well. Many locally owned shops with local artisans with crafts and things like that.......I enjoyed walking around the area and the folks are quite friendly too🙂....oh, to the OP, yes it is a tender port.

Yes to both Lois' kind, helpful follow-up, plus for this being a tender port. I kind of said it, but not exactly 100% clear. The small downtown there has many interesting, varied shops. We found some interesting fabric to buy and take back for a quilting friend in Columbus. The Russian church is historic and fascinating. Below are a few more visuals to help build up excitement for going ashore in this tendering spot. THANKS! Enjoy! Terry in Ohio Norway Coast/Fjords/Arctic Circle cruise from Copenhagen, July 2010, to the top of Europe. Scenic visuals with key tips. Here are a couple more wildlife samples, including this cute little "wave" or greeting that we received.:
