TheMichael Posted June 11, 2023 #179 Share Posted June 11, 2023 So we've all agreed that we're the only well-behaved people on our cruises then? Good job, everyone, our work is done here! (Cruises have been set up to enable people to behave badly for about 20 years now, the situation was just waiting for people to discover it. The solution is incredibly simple: raise prices - a LOT.) 3
pppiglet Posted June 11, 2023 #180 Share Posted June 11, 2023 My sister sent me something this morning that shows Carnival is adding more security guards, drug sniffing dogs, and a 1am curfew for 15 and under. I think she found it on CBS news.
Drazil65 Posted June 11, 2023 #181 Share Posted June 11, 2023 (edited) 1am curfew for 15 and under. Not early enough for this age group, no way should kids in this age group referenced be running a ship (or anywhere else for that matter) on their own or in groups. It is a recipe for trouble and trouble making. I get some grownups want to cruise to have fun and may look at the ship as a giant playpen where their kids are contained but truthfully if people cant supervise their own kids (no matter the age) then maybe dont bring them. Chief93 Posted June 12, 2023 #189 Share Posted June 12, 2023 This thread is exactly why I only cruise while kids are in school. Never in the summer, never over spring break, never over xmas. While I have not had your experience, I did take a 7 day cruise from Galveston after hurricane Katrina. There was a very large number of passengers that had purchased the cruise with the $2,000 debit card the government gave "displaced residents" to help cover their basic needs.

dallasdan Posted June 12, 2023 #192 Share Posted June 12, 2023 I have never seen the dogs in 19 cruises. They may have been in the ports but I didn't see them. My wife says I am not very observant. I certainly haven't seen them on a ship. I leave for a short 4 day weekend cruise out of Galveston at end of the month. I will be on the lookout. I am expecting lots of kids and lots of partying 20 somethings. I will report back.

I think Carnivals marketing team is just making press releases in hopes of better press coverage. You are probably right. We were on a cruise on Glory the week she did her video and they made the splashy announcement. On that cruise there was security all over the place. They were friendly and not oppressive in the least and made us feel comfortable. It was also probably the best behaved group of passengers we experienced since before covid. But when we sailed on the Glory again just a few weeks later we saw no security other than when disembarking and embarking at port calls. The passengers on that cruise dashed our hopes for Carnival and we booked NCL cruises for 2024. We have been sailing free casino cruises on Carnival and don't have that on NCL, but free isn't worth the price if you don't feel safe. The big splashy video and press releases was just blowing smoke. I figure any subsequent press releases are, as you said, just hoping for better press coverage; just more smoke. "taking cheap shots at certain groups of people?" This is the bait I'm referring to. You're looking to get someone to say something that will trigger a liberal backlash. Nice try fishing sport, none of them took your bait. 36 minutes ago, dallasdan said: I have never seen the dogs in 19 cruises. They may have been in the ports but I didn't see them. Society wants to follow rules, basing the making of them on what the rule breakers do or not do is perhaps the weakest argument against them. The hospitality industry has to walk the tightrope, it is a balancing act, your view, my view their view, are from a certain perspective. To say because you or I disagree with our interpretation of what we perceive they are doing (without knowing the facts) is simple untenable. If every cruise line strictly enforced every single RULE, nobody would cruise. It sound like a college professor who is trying to make students think, Too bad critical thinking is considered bad these days!

You're leaving from Texas so recreational use of Marijuana is still illegal and the Drink Package doesn't start until day 2. I would think the younger crowd would leave from Los Angles, New Orleans, or Florida. I know recreational MJ is illegal in Florida but that is still a party state compared to Texas. When recreational use went legal in New Mexico you had the El Paso police issue a statement that they would be on the look-out for Texas plates going into New Mexico and stopping at dispensaries. They also do the same New Mexico fireworks stands (they stake them out and pull people over).

It's almost like you're saying the quiet part out loud for those other posters by your comments and trying to confirm what I was reading into it. Asking a question is giving the benefit of the doubt when untrue or unkind statements are made. Edit: I'll add that if people aren't willing to clarify their comments in an open forum and stand behind them, they shouldn't post them at all.
