Rare VMax1700 Posted June 7, 2023 #2 Share Posted June 7, 2023 WiFi enabled phone and a carrier who offers WiFi enabled calls (Android). Alternative is WhatsApp calling, providing that the call recipient also has WhatApp installed.

Or if the recipient doesn't have whatasapp you an call very cheaply using Skype - skype to phone costs a few fractions of a cent /minute. But really I avoid voice calls at al lcosts - particularly incoming - its unlikely you'll be in your normal timezone and even with a wifi package its unlikely you will have continuous coverage all over the ship
REOVA Posted June 8, 2023 #4 Share Posted June 8, 2023 WhatsApp is easiest to install and use. We usually call via FaceTime (Apple) or through FB Messenger video calling.
YourWorldWithBill Posted June 8, 2023 #5 Share Posted June 8, 2023 Just a note to agree with others: it's worth using WhatsApp. My daughter got me to install it a few years ago, and I have also heard from some knowledgeable people that's it's also the most secure means of talking or texting. But if you really need to use the regular calling with premium, if the phone's wi-fi calling is turned on, then the answer is maybe and maybe not. Sometimes it works.
