FUN!! What is your typical routine after boarding the ship?

1) find our room and put our carry-ons in the closet (even if the notice says you can't get to your room until a certain time, you can drop things off......just don't leave any valuables if the doors are still open and the stewards are still working)

2) check out our dining assignment; dining room and table

3) buy our kids (teens) a soda card and off they go!

4) sit down by the pool, order the drink of the day, people watch and check out the capers (ship's daily activity guide)

5) eat lunch

6) since we board early, our luggage has usually arrived shortly after lunch so we take time to unpack and organize our cabin

7) drink of the day again!

I board the ship, get a foo-foo drink, go to my room and unpack with foo-foo drink #1 in hand. Grab my life jacket and foo-foo drink #2 and head up to the muster drill. Afterwards I grab foo-foo drink #3 and head up to the pool deck to meet with fellow CCers for the sail away party. Then i proceed to snag the cutest pool side server to keep a constant supply of foo-foo drinks to all in the group.

We go find our cabin to drop off carryons then head to lunch. Make sure dining assignment is good. We take pictures and camcorder to record before everyone is on board. Back to room to hopefully unpack, munster drill and then back to room, first balcony for sailaway.:)

there was a survey by some magazine a few years ago that revealed that something like 25% of us cruisers have sex before the sailaway. I guess just being on the ship does something even thought its not moving.

For me, its drop the bags off, go eat and then roam the ship. Do whatever needs to be done like any reservations for the week.

We usually arrive early, head to the room to drop off the handcarry (computer, camera stuff, etc). We head up to the buffet for something to eat, then wander around the ship to get acquainted, take pictures, get the lay of the land. Then at sailaway, head up above for a drink and watch the port disappear behind us. :D

Put money on my Seapass/Sign and Sail card (we only do cash and some lines take it before we board and some after)

Get a drink

Drop crap in cabin if I can.

Make reservations if they have a specialty restaurant

Buy a pop card for my husband if they offer it

Explore

Buy another drink

Find a place to park it and relax

What I (we) did on our last cruise which was our honeymoon was pass out in the cabin as soon as we got there. We didn't wake up for a couple hours, actually that loud muster alarm is what woke us up! lol ...

Ya see .. we were up VERY late the night before and hardly had any sleep. If I remember correctly, I think I even fell asleep in the shower the morning we left. Well the car came to our hotel at 5:00am to pick us up and take us to the airport so all in all, it was a very long day, we needed the naps when we got there!

We like to get on board early too. It's more relaxing. This is what we usually do:

1. Find the cabin.:D

2. Use the bathroom--got to go:p !

3. Check the dailies--plan for the rest of the day:confused: .

4. Go to the buffet--we didn't know there was a buffet until our 3rd cruise:) !

5. Explore the ship--and watch the gangway for fellow shipmates;) .

6. Drill--got to go!

7. Sail Away.

DW likes to find the room and pop open her book- she's on vacation. I can't sit still until I have surveyed the entire ship, bow to stern, top deck to bottom, made reservations, checked out the kid club, pools, spa, and buffet. I usually calm down sometime after dinner. DW figures that if I learn the ship then she doesn't have to as I will "escort" her where ever she wants to go!

Here's how we do it:

Me - Drink of the day, catch some rays, another drink of the day

DH - Review capers, check out piano bar

DD - soda card and off she goes

DS - get list of kids activities, checks off what he wants to do during the week, hits the arcade and explores (life is good... what else could a 10 y.o. want out of life!)

If we're cruising by ourselves, we check into our cabin and then go onto our balcony and have some champagne. I like to being a split (half bottle) aboard with me for the occasion.

If we're traveling with a some friends, we do the same thing - just have a larger bottle of champagne and the company of good friends to make a toast for a great cruise.

If it's a ship we've never been on before, we like to walk around and get our bearings.

I love watching the sail-away from our balcony and not being on deck with the crowds.

We go straight for our room, drop off carry ons, figure out a code for the safe, and head for the buffet. Then we like to tour the boat, get our bathing suits on(always have them in your carry on) hop into the hottubs and finally relax until we sailaway.

This post was the best one ever. It is soooo exciting to think of this. Can not wait until June.

I'm so glad you said that-That made my day :) I tried to think of something that tons of people would want to chime in--so glad I succeeded --

The problem is that now I don't have a cruise planned but my parents do and a close friend and her family are going so my husband knows I'm getting anxious :()

This is a great post:) . I have only been on one cruise, and that was Aug 2003 with RC. I didnt have anything planned out on what I should do first. I just remember being completely in awe of everything, and thought "This is totally cool"... WIth that being said, we found our room, and was truly shocked on how small it really was :p . We hada 4 person room, on the Majesty of the Sea. Now, this was our first cruise, so we didnt know better, but everybody said the the rooms are small. My parents, who were with us(and very seasoned cruisers)said these rooms were the smallest they have ever seen. We did not care. Me and my son explored the ship, (while husband stayed back in the room with napping daughter).

Our next cruise is this Aug on the Carnival Valor, and Im so excited about exploring the ship with my kids once we find our rooms.SO NOW i will have to start a new routine for what to do after boarding.

Alot of people have said that they go to the main dining room and find out where their table is, etc. If you don't like the location(not sure what location would be bad) would they change it? and has anyone changed tables mid-cruise because the people they sat with were not a match? My parents had a table that they didn't click with at all and they never changed and regretted it looking back and didn't have as good of a time at meals because of it. (we're not religious and the people had long prayers every night at the table-uncomfortable for people who don't share those beliefs)

Do you purchase the expensive first drink in the souvenir glass or opt for a regular drink at the bar-I remember the first time I cruised so many people on this board said--don't get suckered into buying that drink it's like $15 with the glass--is that true?
