Just how much of a problem ARE interlopers in the YC?

MSC YC officials need to crack down on unauthorized guests entering the YC Member's only areas.  Why should they get in for free when YC guests pay a premium to be there?

Pure speculation, it is a perk, and YC is not intended to be part of the deal.

 

(Or else it was, but no-one thought through the consequences on affecting their highest paying clientele.)

Yacht Club is a great experience so if you plan to book it don’t be an A hole and try to sneak others in who haven’t paid the premium to be here and ruin it for those who play by the rules

That is a very good point. We will be on board shortly and do not wish to 'muddy the waters' with more postings about what happened a month ago. The staff really treat those of us paying guests rather royally. It was DW who discovered that casino guests are treated to "ACCESS" to the Yacht Club as well though not residing in the Yacht Club. This was true on Celebrity Retreat as well, a "high roller" often had his entourage in the Luminae for his meals, pictures with staff and maitre 'd fawning all over him. I guess these "outsiders" really tip better than normal YC guests? I will keep my 'gunpowder dry' until we board and observe.

I have seen a high roller on a Celebrity Xmas cruise with wife and 3 children given access to suite lounge and Luminae in pre Retreat days

Whatever my personal opinions on the matter (which can I'm sure be rather easily divined), I very much doubt there is anything in the terms & conditions that guarantees exclusivity of YC facilities to YC guests.

I doubt it.

Multiple cruise lines allow officers (rank depends on the cruise line) to bring friends and/or family on board for varying lengths of time. The only proviso is that the added headcount not violate bed space and lifeboat limits. R.H.I.P.

There are a few blogs out there by wives of officers and they admit to pretty much having access to everything a paying cruiser gets, plus free laundry and other perquisites.

Add to this the fact that MSC is family-owned. I'm confident they think nothing of comping their friends and extended family members, when beds are available.

This. Do the people pushing back here think flying economy includes an expectation that passenger can walk into first or business class and get the meals & drinks served there? Should they be able to say my family or my friends paid $$$ to be up here so they should be allowed to get the same amenities even though they only paid for an economy ticket?

Like charging double or triple above and beyond what a YC guest may be charged for inviting friends and family in with permission? Or charge the friends and family what it would cost if they were 3 & 4 in a Yacht Club suite. Then the next time they will just pay the YC fare to begin with.

I guess MSC corporate must not feel it is that much of an issue if they do not do something about it. 

 

This should have standard rules regarding this and all YC staff including the Director must follow these rules.  Also all Staff including the officers should have a guest policy the they must adhere to in regarding to YC access.  But again, this must be dictated and enforced by MSC corporate.  It really is the only way it will stop.

Another suitcase for medications (read that a gentleman was charged $3000 for antibiotics for a sinus infection on NCL). Another suitcase for laptops (4) to keep in touch with other electronics. The other suitcases are her 'back ups'. Every time she reads about some passenger having a problem she has to pack something else. On the Divina we were missing a bag. It was flagged by security. In it was packed with two water floatation jackets and smoke masks. We have since had to leave those home as now we need the space for comfort food in the event of a port shut down.

  Hope that gives you some idea about growing old together.

All this reminds me of Joe Vs. the Volcano and the fact that I might need to travel with more luggage...

People somehow think that they're entitled to things they didn't pay for or earn.

 

If I see this garbage on my upcoming YC Mera cruise in October, I'll call them out directly.  This New Yorker has zero time to deal with garbage people doing garbage things.

Unfortunately twitter doesn't give me enough alphabet letters to work with and the FB 'chaps' have banned me for bringing the matter up. It is really difficult to know who belongs and who doesn't belong. It was just when I questioned staff as to why certain venues in the Yacht Club were over crowded that I discovered the truth behind the scenes. The matter will never be cleared up is my personal fear.

When I migrated to MSC and started on the FB groups  there are a bunch that run a lot of them with very heavy censorships got kicked of one for just being helpful with information.
Now can't see the others run by the same people.
