I now realise that they apply only to meals. This menu shows four late harvest and fortified wines. I haven't yet looked them up and and hoping they include a good dessert wine? The current wine list by glass shows 5 dessert wines. Good?? No clue here as I don’t drink dessert wines, but according to the wine experts here on CC they have no good wines by the glass! I, on the other hand, found several non dessert wines I was fine with on the list

Rare pinotlover Posted July 13, 2023 #112 Share Posted July 13, 2023 I believe in a recent review I rated a few of the wines by the glass as being quite quaffable. The dessert wines, in that category, are also good. OTH, a few of the wines are also quite poor. The posted wine list is an example only of wines offered. We found many to be out of stock and replaced with a different wine not listed on the wine list. For example, for Chardonnay, the list shows both a Macon Village and a Raymond ( CA) Chardonnay. Both are reasonably good and pair nicely with different types of food. However, we have recently been on ships where one or both are out of stock, and they are pouring something entirely different not on the list. If you’re into wine, other than just swilling, ask to see the bottle they are pouring from.

There exists a huge selection of wines that are merely mediocre. Do they inspire you, entice you to buy? Perhaps not. Will you drink them if they even reasonably pair and the only thing available? Yes! Doesn’t mean you like them, but you’ll drink them. I taste through a multitude of wines every month. Some are well constructed wines that stylistically I’m not fond of, but can identify them as well made wines of that style. Liking or disliking has little to do with recognizing wine quality.

Liking or disliking has little to do with recognizing wine quality. I agree with you on the range of wines available, and I will also drink the wine offered with a meal even if I find it less to my taste than others, and make a mental note to avoid it in future if I don't really like it. However, if you are given an opinion from anyone who does not have a genuine interest in wine, which is the majority, most people will simply say the wine that they most frequently drink. As an example, on a holiday in a good hotel in Lanzarote, more than half the people dining were drinking 'Campo Viejo'. purely because it is what they drink at home or have seen on the supermarket shelves, despite there being a good range of local wines, of which we tried a different one each day. Guess what they would offer as a recommendation? In a completely different analogy, if asked who they consider to be the best guitarist, people will tell you the guitarist with their favourite band, or from a shortlist of the usual suspects. None will be a helpful answer.

Actually NO. To utilize the package the bars must be open. Therefore, in the morning, until Waves Bar opens at around 11:00, there’s really no place to get mixed drinks. During inclement weather, Waves Bar may not open at all, so that is an additional limitation in the afternoon. Horizons and the Casino bar, or the new Founders Bar on Vista, stay open reasonably late but not 24/7.

Rare pinotlover Posted July 15, 2023 #123 Share Posted July 15, 2023 There are certain days when a Bloody Mary bar is set up in the Terrace at breakfast. There were none on our recent Vista cruise. We have asked for a Bloody Mary before at breakfast in the GDR and been told it wasn’t available that day. Perhaps other days it is. I’ve seen people order a mimosa at breakfast, in the Terrace, but be gone long before it’s delivered. If you have lots of time, and a bit lucky, you might get either. If one hits after rush hour, their luck may improve.

Rare pinotlover Posted July 15, 2023 #125 Share Posted July 15, 2023 That is the same list they have had for nearly a year. Whether they actually have current on board inventory is a different matter. Oceania kept the exact same menu for its La Reserve dinners for years. The advertised wines had often long been poured out and replaced. Take the wine and bar lists as a sampling .
