omahabob Posted June 26, 2023 #4 Share Posted June 26, 2023 Don't expect that to be guaranteed. NCL pays a hefty fee to the local authorities for that privilege, so I wouldn't be surprised if they stopped it at some point.

Nothing in life is guaranteed, but NCL was instrumental several years ago in getting the law changed to permit the casinos to be open. Since most NCL ships are in port there for at least two nights per cruise and passenger demand for the casino to be open is high there's no reason to believe that this is not a profitable operation, and making a profit will ensure that NCL will continue to pay the licensing fees.

They make enough revenue from the casino to justify the fee. They have been paying it for years now. If the fee was a hardship they would have stopped long ago. Too profitable.
bkrickles1 Posted June 26, 2023 #9 Share Posted June 26, 2023 I was on Joy in Bermuda last summer and the casino was open. And, as others have said, it would be shocking if that stopped as it's a moneymaker.
dbrown84 Posted June 26, 2023 #10 Share Posted June 26, 2023 anyone know if they also wait until 9 to open the casino bar? I usually decline the FAS drink package and just use my casino drink card. I'm thinking I will take the FAS drinks if/when I do Bermuda because I'm not going to want to wait until 9:00 to start drinking. but if they change the rules and let the casino drink card be used earlier.....

Bar opens at 9:00PM in the casino. The systems at the bar for processing drinks and the slot/poker machines and table games magically come alive at 9:00PM. Before then, nothing is operational. I'm pretty sure you already know it's about $21/day to take the FAS drink package, so, if you want 2 drinks before 9:00, get the package. Unfortunately, it's that amount each day, even the sea days when you wouldn't need it. Guess you need to whip out the calculator. 🙂

The only times NCL might not have a casino open while in Bermuda is when a ship that does not regularly cruise to Bermuda, such as a ship doing a transatlantic, is doing a one off port call there on its itinerary. In those cases it's not worth paying for the casino licensing fee when the ship is only going to be in port one time for a few hours. I've been cruising to Bermuda on NCL and other cruise lines for at least 35 years and since the opening casinos on ships were legalized about 10 years ago I've never heard of an instance of a ship that makes regular calls on Bermuda not having its casino open.

Russiamomm Posted June 26, 2023 #16 Share Posted June 26, 2023 I echo what most others have said. The casino opens at 9. There’s no reason to think this will change. I also sail with CAS and always get the drink package anyway. Even if the casino was open 24/7, I don’t spend my whole trip in the casino. It’s a pain to go there for a drink if you’re not already there. 😂

That's why they added the "reportedly." I wasn't totally sure. Probably should have used more descriptive terminology though.
