Can cabin cards be set up to open multiple cabins?

Five of us are cruising in July. Essentially we will have a cabin for the 3 guys and a cabin for the 2 gals, though due to how promotional offers were made the cabin assignments don't exactly line up with that.

Does anyone know if mine and/or my husband's cards can be set to open either room? Or, once we all show up to check in, can we request that the names be moved around to reflect how we'll actually be staying in the cabins? Or will that invalidate the offer rates we booked under?

Hubby thinks that as long as we all show up to board, Carnival won't really care where any of us sleep and will be fine changing cabin assignments. I'm not so certain.

For the record the cabins are not connecting, they're not even adjacent to each other. Nearby but no way to go from one to the other.

TIA for any information.

We just had the same situation on Vista with a party of 7 across 3 rooms.  We went to guest services as soon as we got on board and they gave us extra "key cards" for the people who needed access to other rooms.  That worked best for us because we didn't want to chance messing up the variety of OBC already assigned to the cards/rooms.

I don’t think your sign and sail card will work to open any additional cabins, but as csm noted, you can go to Guest Services to get an additional card that will open the door of the cabin in which you will be sleeping.  All of you will need to go to Guest Services as a group.

It can be done, but Carnival may not know how to do it or if it something they cannot do for any number of reasons. I have used the same lock system for many years,

As noted, technologically it can be done, but I doubt the "system" is set up to allow it.  Your cabin steward has a single key that opens every door, so the technology can allow for it (depending on the software), but the extra key-cards method is the one Carnival uses.

Yikes, what would happen if they switch to wristbands?  An extra wristband?

you will get an extra card   all it does it open the door.   No charging is on those key cards       they cant set your own card to open multiple doors

Thank you all for this information!

So it sounds like it doesn't really matter too much who is assigned to each cabin, we can plan to give each of us access to the rooms we'll actually be sleeping in without it causing an issue as far as promotional perks and such, as long as we all go to guest services together once we're on board. Does that sound accurate?

Correct.

Safe travels and enjoy your cruise!

Curious where FIL plans on sleeping as he seems to be the odd one out. I just flashed on him crashed on a lounger at 2am, lol.

I am trying to figure out what type of promotions you got for moving people around?

When we sail, we have 3 in one cabin (one adult with two children), and two in another (two adults).  We got no type of promotion. We will stay in our assigned staterooms, but I will need an extra key to the stateroom where my grandchildren are sleeping in case I babysit them a couple of evenings.  This thread is helpful..thank you.

Some VIFP numbers get better promotional rates than others.  The rates apply for everyone in their cabin. So, if a husband and wife are the two people with the promotional rates, to minimize cost, they need to be in separate cabins on the bookings.

Hubby, FIL, and son will be in one cabin. Son will have the upper bunk.
Son's GF and I will be in another cabin.

If I catch FIL crashed on a lounger at 2am I'll let you know! rofl

No promotions for moving people around.

Hubby and I both receive occasional casino offers. When we booked this cruise, his offer was for a 'free' cabin (plus a fee, plus port fees, etc. Plus the price to upgrade if he wanted anything other than a random interior cabin. So not free but a deep discount off the sticker price.) My offer was for a Drinks On Us! card and an onboard credit. We initially booked two cabins for four people, him and his dad in one and me and son in the other.
When son's GF's parents agreed she could join us, neither promotion we booked under was still active. It would have cost a LOT more if hubby had cancelled his reservation to change to a 3 person cabin. I only lost my drink card and onboard credit, so we cancelled my reservation and rebooked the 3 person cabin in my name.

There were no promotions for moving people around. I was concerned that moving people around would jeopardize the promotions we are booked under.

Hope that clears things up some. 🙂

... 🙂

Once onboard, you won't lose anything for moving people around if you choose to do so.
