Aside from the casino, how was the cruise?  I had previously sworn off Radiance's holiday weekend cruises after being on one that was really over capacity and then on top of it, we had bad weather, so there was not a bit of free space inside that ship to sit and relax.  Lines and lines for everything and you just couldn't escape the noise and crowds.

... But I'm already starting to reconsider ... she's a great ship and so easy to hop on over a 3-day weekend.😄

4th time on this ship in the last year and my spouse and I said this was the best one so far. The worst was 4th of July 2022. The crowd was horrible. A bunch of drunk idiots behaving badly.

Yeah,, something seems off. Were you solely playing tables or were you doing slots too? A straight loss of $9100 on the slots would net you around 3600 points just on the cash in. Based on an average return of 85% ish that should have at least gotten you another 4-5k points with your winnings rolled back in, not including earning more points rolling back in further winnings. So $9100 and only 8800 points seems low.

Frankly the easiest way to tell how you’re doing against other players is how willing they are to give direct onboard comps. From what i’ve found,, when they give you the line of “Based on your anticipated play I can offer you x”,, you are trending towards the top of their charts, and expect you to maintain that level of play. When they straight out offer you something low,, you are on their radar, but not towards the upper top.

I just got off of a 4 day, which was booked under a casino offer with $1,000 freeplay, with an out of pocket loss of $1k,, but ended with 3500 points. First night “based on my anticipated play” she was willing to give me steakhouse, but it was for day 2 and we already didn’t want to do formal night in the MDR,, so we def weren’t in the mood to do steakhouse that night. On day #3,, my onboard offer had dropped to “steakhouse selections”. However, I did receive a bounceback offer of a free OV and DOU everywhere on the last night.

For us,, the bounce back offers don’t really matter since we already have 3 other elite cruises with DOU booked, a premier cruise to alaska balcony, with $1k freeplay booked, and one more 3 day with the $1k freeplay booked,,, so I really don’t play for an offer onboard, knowing the future offers will be far better anyways. (and on the cruise that earned me the elite, premier and ultra offers,, onboard I only received a bounceback for an OV with DOU Everywhere,, a comp for 2 to Rudi’s, and a strawberry plate. My points on that were roughly 14k on a 7 day)

I think this is much ado about nothing.

Just wait for the new offers to drop.  You might get a free cabin on either the Premier, Ultra or Elite cruises.  I pretty much ignore those from the cruise itself.  My later offers are much better.

All slots, and yes, like I said, I got absolutely destroyed. On the second night, a casino employee (I won’t use the term “host” because in a normal world they wouldn’t qualify for that title) approached me and offered me a $36 comp for two, to Cucina..immediately after he gave the same comp to my neighbor who had ~3300 points (I had ~7000 at the time).

FWIW, here’s my “play cruise repeat”’ offer I gotIMG_6141.thumb.jpeg.f59f68e7bd700c918107a09245c553c4.jpeg

Looks like it didn't work out for you this time. I'm a casino player as well and have had some great deals and comps recently, but I never expect anything.

There is a forumla and algorithm that they use but no one really knows what the secret sauce is.

This is actually a pretty easy fix. Just take $9,100, subtract what you spend on the cruise, and make that your new budget for gambling on the ship. Voila! You have a free cruise for the low low price of $8,500 or so.

I guess with offshore stuff you’re pretty much right. I’ll keep gambling to Vegas from now on.

Who knows, you might discover the color of the ocean, the flying wonder of a seagull as it just matches the strength of the breeze with the curvature of its wings or the incredible speed of the swimming dolphins. 😄

Sorry you are unhappy with Carnival's treatment of you. Can't say I blame you. I certainly expect extra perks and nice come-back offers when I am spending big in the casino. I have learned (over many years) to enjoy my time playing, and never spend more than I can afford to lose. I always introduce myself to the Casino Host as soon as possible; some will give you perks, but you can't count on it. Hope you find some reasonable compensation for your loyalty. Good luck and have fun!

Sometimes the offers that come in once you're home are better than what's offered when onboard. What I have found is that if I haven't booked anything for a while, the offers start getting better.

The later offers are based on marketing data that they have learned about you.

My question is this - because I honestly don’t know. My understanding is that the casino is a concession - they pay the cruise lines based on the number of machines, tables etc as well as a percentage of what is played. If the slots etc are sitting idle, the concessionaire is still paying some kind of flat fee.

The OP claims to have lost $9100. Surely that $9100 is not pure revenue to Carnival - but rather to the concessionaire, and the cruise lines receive a percentage. Would anyone have further insight into this situation?

The casino is 100% owned by CCL. It is managed by Ocean Players Club but Carnival owns OPC. Therefore yes, that loss is 100% profit to Carnival minus any overheard from slot maintenance, payroll, and promotional comps extended which sound like were a pitiful 50% off.

I imagine the formula is "based on this person's behavior what is the absolute least I can comp them and still get them on another one of my cruises".

I say this because we often hear a variation of "my deal sucked, but I still have another cruise booked with them and will decide after that..."

Leads me to suspect Carnival knows they have the hook firmly set already and can take it easy reeling in the fish.

That said, I don't know what I'm talking about, so...

The offers are based on, "here is what we think they can spend...." People respond with "I earned more points this cruise so I can get better offers"  Ok, then..

DH and I cruised on the Panorama in June and both earned a decent amount of points - him more than me, though. We didn't get any offers while on the ship (except a free steakhouse meal). About a week after getting off the ship, we got the 50% offer. Since then, we've only received decent offers on Australian cruises... which we aren't interested in right now. That was until Thursday - and we got a great casino offer! $100/pp plus free play and drinks on us everywhere. We actually called and got the offer put onto 2 of our upcoming cruises and saved about $5k. Make sure you check your account and see what you have!

That's awesome.  Did you call the main Carnival number or is there a Player's Club number to call?

Carnival Casino 1-866-299-5859

Just want to give another thanks to you and the other posters.  Called today and managed to go from drinks in the casino to drinks anywhere for me and hubby (though he has to visit the cage once on board to get the offer).  We also got $200 each in fun play, which we didn't have before.  Couldn't upgrade to a balcony, but it's a 4-day cruise and we are more than happy with what we have.  So, again, thanks!!!
