Vancouver to California on Royal, September 2024..getting off in San Diego

I have been investigating a cruise in September 2024 from Vancouver.  The cruise ends in Los Angeles, but on the day before it is in San Diego.  Would it be possible to just leave the cruise in San Diego as we are San Diegans as Los Angeles is less convenient.  What do you think?

Looks like I am out of luck as it would probably be considered transporting between domestic ports...Yuck.

If you board in Vancouver, Canada, legally you are OK to disembark in San Diego. But Princess has to arrange for Immigration and Customs for you in San Diego -- so you have to request a "Deviation"..

As long as you are not on the previous sailing from Whittier to Vancouver and planning a B2B. That may run you into a PVSA violation regardless of where in the US you plan to disembark. If you’re just doing this cruise, you just need to request a deviation. You will have cleared US customs in SF though, so customs won’t be an issue.

OP could not have booked a B2B from Whittier to LA, since that would have been a PVSA violation.

Yes, but it sounds like he hasn’t booked the Vancouver to LA yet, so was giving him a heads up in case that was his intention.

It depends on itinerary. I am doing something similar and we will clear customs in Astoria.

 

Though it is best to request a deviation.

There are plenty of examples here on CC of folks who were able to book a PVSA violation only to have Princess come around later and cancel it.

If you board in Vancouver you will legally be able to disembark in San Diego. You will clear immigration at the first U.S. port which is Astoria. There may be some customs formalities when disembarking in San Diego, but not likely. You probably will have to wheel off your own luggage.

You will have to request a deviation from Princess. If Princess gives you a problem quoting PVSA violations don't accept that answer. There is no violation. If you use a T.A. they can handle that for you.

There are two ships, Royal & Discovery, that have this itinerary one week apart. You must board in Vancouver for the 7 day cruise. You will not be permitted to book the previous sailing on either ship. These previous sailings embark at U.S. ports.

You will definitely have to carry your own luggage off the pier.  Princess hires no ground staff on straight visitations.

If it is an issue you could probably request assistance to get your luggage off the ship and down the gangplank. Once on the pier you will be on your own.
