CruiserBruce Posted October 5, 2023 #3 Share Posted October 5, 2023 As frequently discussed on the Alaska board, in Alaska it's all about layers, with the external layer being water and wind proof. On a June sailing we worth everything we brought...from shorts, to what for a California resident is a fairly heavy jacket. At Hubbard we had temps in the low 40s. Blackduck59 Posted October 5, 2023 #4 Share Posted October 5, 2023 Make one of those layers merino wool. You could probably take some hot shots hand warmers too. They're good to have along even if you don't use them.
Rare Crew News Posted October 5, 2023 #5 Share Posted October 5, 2023 For my many Alaska cruises, I packed layers of clothing. Lightweight long underwear fis important for fast moving whale watching boats. Long wind-resistant, unlined (too hard to remove jacket liners when the weather wars) outer garment - cardigan sweater under. Add a flannel shirt as another layer. A stocking cap and gloves are essential. I also bring USB hand warmers.
