Pinnacle Grill New Year's Eve Menu?

We'll be on Nieuw Statendam December 27 - January 7.

It looks like Pinnacle is having a special NY Eve Menu but there are no details other than a higher than usual price for that evening.

Does anyone have any insights about what to expect?

We did this several years ago. It was the worst meal I have ever had aboard a HAL ship. Cold, undercooked PORK tenderloin.  A dessert that was a blueberry, raspberry, and strawberry in a chocolate box..

Two of our tablemates left after the first course because it was unappetizing. Two others left immediately after the main course was delivered. We left about 3 minutes later.

I had a lengthy conversation with the maitre'd.

So much potential, so wasted.

Our take on last New Year's Eve on the Nieuw Statendam

For NYE we had originally booked NYE Dinner at the Pinnacle .

But when the menu was published we were less enthusiastic

The MDR menu on the ship was for the 1st Gala night and featured Surf and Turf that could be delivered to the room gratis instead of $81 .40 pp . The cabin option also included a sunset outside of our balcony and ring side seats to the Cotton Bowl featuring Alabama vs Cincinnati .

And the knock on the door brought mounds of food prepared for our dining pleasure

The menu looks like boilerplate from what we had on the Volendam for NYE.   That first specialty dinner set me up for the remainder of the cruise until March 18, I was the "no mushrooms" person when actually it was the truffles are the no no.  Our dessert from. NYE.

We used our $160 dinner investment toward something bought on board that had no corkage fee so it was less than Total Wine carry on . It lasted NYE and several meals with this improved bubble stopper

  • Made In Italy → Similar Champagne corks say they’re Italian, but check the package and it’s China! The WAF Champagne bottle stopper is patented by Italian inventor Walter Fortunato (WAF) and manufactured in Italy. It’s the only stopper with a self-tightening seal, and easy release clip. And while some people tell us it provides the perfect fizz for up to two weeks, we say 3-5 days max. Try it now, and decide yourself!

Boiler plate? So its wrong to have the same menu fleetwide? Even if it makes their logistics support more efficient?

Thank you for posting this!

We have reservations for the Pinnacle on the NS for NYE… but now I’m having second thoughts about spending $162 for what is essentially avialable in the MDR & CO at no extra cost.

We also have reservation for the Pinnacle on the Nieuw Satendam for NYE and paid $163 with my credit card for the two of us. We are newbies to spend NYE on HAL, so have a few questions: (1) will the MDR serve the same menu as the Pinnacle on NYE without any up-charge (2) is the same Pinnacle NYE menu also available to order for room service without any up-charge? (3) if we want to cancel the Pinnacle reservation on NYE, will I get a refund to my credit card?

The MDR menu WILL NOT be the same as the Pinnacle at any time, ever. Any refund if you cancel will go to your room account. If you don't spend it, it will then be refunded your your credit card at the end of the cruise.

Agreed.  Booked on advance for NYE on the Volendam last year.   It was a very special menu and very celebratory.

Thank you for the comments above. So it appears the $163 NYE charge at Pinnacle does offer something special over the MDR, such as upgraded menu and perhaps better service? I was a bit confused from reading other posters' comments that it may not be worth to spend NYE at Pinnacle.

Love to hear more comments from those who have experienced NYE at Pinnacle or at MDR,

I did last NYE Pinnacle dinner on Koningsdam. Personally I loved it. As a solo cruiser, it was affordable (less than what I have paid at home for a very nice meal out), I felt special and elegant. I will probably do it again on this year’s NYE cruise.
