Rare hmorrow Posted November 30, 2023 #1 Share Posted November 30, 2023 Looks like our cabin on deck 7 of the Oosterdam will be under the bridge.(6008) has anyone stayed in it? or another cabin under the bridge. Was it noisy? Noise is my concern.

Rare VMax1700 Posted November 30, 2023 #7 Share Posted November 30, 2023 I believe that some cabins in this area have requests to keep the drapes closed during hours of darkness and not to use the verandah light, due to light wash towards the bridge.

Haven't you heard? ... The dance practice has been phased out ages ago. Their new way of torturing pax is over-amplified music. 😰😵😀

Interesting, We were midship on Deck 8 -under the Lido- on the Noordam, and I noticed this same posted message - for the first time. Cabin was some distance away from the bridge midship. "Navigation requirements -- no deck lights on and curtains must closed at night".

If you are on Dk 7, in 7008, rather than the Bridge, you probably have officer cabins above your cabin.

You read that a lot, but it's really because the trolls - who dwell under the bridge - dislike the light. Pack a sack filled with small barnyard animals to feed the trolls. You can also use youngsters but they are a tad pricey.

You should be able to source teenagers much more cheaply than other "youngsters" or livestock. In some cases parents are willing to give them away for free or even pay the recipient. As long as it is relatively tasty, trolls aren't that particular about whether their meat is "veal tender" or aged "on the hoof." If you're not sure if the teen meets their (low) standards, you can always throw in a couple of packages of marinade to seal the deal. Jus' sayin'...
SanDiegian Posted December 1, 2023 #14 Share Posted December 1, 2023 The front is ideal if you like coffee as the Crow’s Nest is just a couple flights of stairs above you. Our cabin was just down the corridor from the Bridge and I frequently passed the Captain (there were 3) on route to the coffee bar (and, no, the Captain did not cut to the front of the line). And the gym & spa got a lot more use from my aft dwelling. The theater & casino are directly below so you won’t have excuses for missing shows. The pool & hot tub is easily reached a deck above. The rocking of the ship required a little skill to remain upright on the first night out of Seattle in the Gulf of Alaska but pleasant sailing sailing after that. If you are a foodie you are in for a workout because The Lido is a long walk at the aft end, an opportunity to appreciate the wall Art & door decorations in the corridors

ris_scot Posted December 1, 2023 #18 Share Posted December 1, 2023 We have stayed in the cabin below the bridge wings on the Rotterdam last year. No real noise issues from the bridge and the next door cabin was an Officer who always seemed to be working so no issues with that either. I actually only saw him on the day we left the ship. The comments about the veranda light are correct and this is actually controlled by the bridge but at night I prefer not having the light on as I want to see the night sky.
Heidi13 Posted December 1, 2023 #19 Share Posted December 1, 2023 The reason for not permitting any lights fwd, or in the vicinity of the Bridge is that it negatively impacts the Bridge Officer's night vision.

jljcruise Posted December 4, 2023 #21 Share Posted December 4, 2023 (edited) We were on the Oosterdam from Mid-October to mid-November this year, in cabin 6008. I'll add to the above comments that you do lose some veranda privacy as you are directly (very directly) below the glass floor on the bridge. You can turn your head up and watch the officers working when they're there, like when docking. Edited December 4, 2023 by jljcruise
soccermom4 Posted December 4, 2023 #22 Share Posted December 4, 2023 Loved being in 8005 - same level as the bridge. Waved to the bridge officers every morning and saw the Captain quite a few times because the door to the officer's quarters and the bridge was across the hall. Very quiet location.
