We sail in 20 days, X Reflection, and my BIL wants to surprise his wife with a vow renewal while on the cruise.  He has asked me what he needs to do.  I said, "Contact Celebrity."

Has anyone ever done a vow renewal on board before?  If so,   can you please share with me your experience?

All helpful information is appreciated.

My suggestion is that he not surprise her and tell her ahead of time. She may want to be better prepared, such as a special outfit for photo ops and so on. My DW has horrified at the idea but after a few days warmed up to it.  So glad I didn't spring it on her.

We did our 30th last April but that was on a HAL cruise.  All I can say is our experience was over the moon, but can't speak for X.  Was nice as we had my inlaws and youngest son join us.  I am sure X will do a great job, maybe we can do our 40th on X

Here is some recent info in the thread linked below.  There is a third party they have to contact to get pricing. Spoiler alert: expensive.  Not sure of the timeline needed, either, so may be too close to the sailing to arrange so he should start this process ASAP.

I did guide my BIL to the celebrity site for more information.  He has contacted our TA and she is going to look into what is needed for the arrangements.

Is it wrong that I am hoping there isn't enough time to arrange it? 😆

My next question for you is, how did you find the existing thread?  I try to search for existing  threads before I post, and it always comes up with nothing found.  I have been on CC for years, what iam I doing wrong?????  😂

Just want to add another comment: since we departed on HAL on our actual 30th, I decided to buy my DW some flowers for the room, maybe $60.  The  vow renewal was $250 plus 12 pp for guests.  That included the girl from guest relations picking us up at the cabin, bouquet of flowers for DW, boutineer for me, private ceremony at at bar, all decorated with balloons and flowers, one other couple, tons of appetizers and champaign for everyone, captain spent half an hour with us before ceremony, photographer, photo album with certificate and 6 8x10 photos, escort back to our cabin, remainder of cake delivered to cabin, towel swans and rose petals on bed.  Oh and dinner for two at the specialty restaurant. LOVE X  but beat that

Definitely needs to check with his wife - she might not be a keen as him 🙈

I think so too, but there is a part of me that also wants him to experience a little drama.   BIL has changed every set plan of this trip to benefit himself and make everyone else's trip just a little bit harder.  So, I'm not inclined to suggest that he tell her.  I know that makes me a rotten SIL, but a taste of his own medicine might do him some good.  😬

We are just off equinox and this is second hand info. People we became friendly with were celebrating their 50th anniversary and were going to do a vow renewal until they found out it was $2500. Decided not to do it. I did however see two service dogs one dressed in a pink sequinned tutu getting ready to get married.

I am happy vow renewal is not required in our church.   The vow you make at your wedding does not expire.    We do celebrate anniversaries.    Is this particular to a certain religious belief that you need to renew your vows, or has someone in the marriage broken them??

No. It isn't required.  SIL is a DR, and does not wear her rings at work.  She has gotten them resized so many times that the band is too thin to size again, so she doesn't wear it all.

BIL bought new matching bands for Christmas presents.  He wants to surprise her with them and a vow renewal.
