Noisy ocean view balconies?

I'm a solo traveler, and sailing on Wonder next month.  Booked a balcony guarantee and my set sail pass shows a Central Park balcony. 

 

I had Royal Up offers submitted for Ocean View and Large Ocean view balconies, but cancelled them once I started looking at what's showing as available for the cruise right now.  There are quite a few on deck 14 under the Windjammer or pool.  

 

I've read some posts saying most rooms aren't noisy, but would love to hear more comments.  Have you had a cabin that kept you awake early or late?  

 

I'd love to have an ocean view balcony and I'm OK with being far from elevators or whatever, but would like to sleep on my cruise. And yes, I could "book the room I want" but it's a lot (to me) when you're solo.

I wouldn’t accept a balcony beneath the pool

decks; the late night, early morning noise of deck chairs being slid around and decks power washed is very disruptive.

Under the WJ and under the pool are my #1 and #2 “do not book” locations.

There is no relation between currently available cabins and what you could get via Royal Up program, every location is possible.

oceanview rooms in the very front of ship will have noise from beneath the bow as that is the crew bar.

Happened to me on Allure, Oasis, and Anthem.  Pick an oceanview along the side of the ship.

Impossible to predict how this affects your personal experience on a ship.

 

Are you a light sleeper? Some will advise you to bring earplugs and a white noise device which I will not argue with because you can find yourself in any hotel in the world with rowdy neighbors who just happen to be on a college spring-break. Just hope they do not smoke (OOOOhhhh, that is a whole other hot button issue).

 

The perfect room is always subject to the "Escape Clauses" which are similar to the "Santa Clauses". The best laid plans are thwarted by the little playful rascals that pound on your door at 1:25 am in the middle of a great night's sleep. Their terror knows no bounds as they careen throughout the ship on multiple deck levels in disregard to your elite cabin status. They steal your "Do not disturb sign" and replace it with "Room service required." At some time in their existence, they will experience the dreaded elevator Christmas Tree button push as adults, only to ponder upon their earlier follies. Yes, it did feel so much better when they were younger.

 

Find the best room that you like for its location, desired type of view, motion movement, proximity of what you do the most or like the most, and roll the dice.

 

Somewhat like going to the casino, you play the odds as best you can to win the jackpot but it is always a gamble on the outcome.

100% under the pool deck, never again. We heard every... single... chair... that was moved/dragged across the deck from inside our room on Harmony 😐

This reminds me that yes, it seems there are always kids or inconsiderate adults to wake you up from a sound sleep.  Packing those earplugs and noise machine...

The location risks are similar for Guarantee bookings and RoyalUp.  With either one you can be placed in the least desirable cabin in the category (to your tastes) and you may be stuck there, unable to move due to lack of availability.  Some people are flexible and willing to do this; other are not. For others it is situational (they will do it for certain categories, on certain ship, or for a certain bargain price).

 

You booked an XN.  You seemed to have escaped a deck 14 assignment with your CP cabin (presumably you’d have told us if you were already in deck 14😀).  You’ll have to weigh to cost of the upgrade and the risk of a poor location vs your wish for an oceanview.

😁 Deck 14  1 bedroom GS. It's the teens!; but they sleep in. 😂

 We had a suite on the 14th floor. The morning wasn't wasn't the problem it was the evening.

We'd rather pay the extra to pick our cabin and location. Less worries about wondering what we would be getting. Exactly what you (and others) are going thru. For us, not worth the risk.

We have a balcony on deck 14, under the sports court.  I hope it will be OK.  Yikes, that's what we get for booking a guarantee!

Since it is the sports court, my guess is that there will not be any early "morning" noise and just dependent on when the activities are shutdown for the evening. Enjoy your balcony, pack your earplugs just in case, and try not to stress about it.

Yes, on deck 10 right now.  CP and I just realized today that it's a connecting room, and the room it connects to shows occupancy up to four, so I assume there could be kids there (so maybe noisier).   Whether I end up there or end up with a RoyalUp change, I'm determined I'll have a great time!
