The dreaded Freeport Questions...

I have been to Freeport 2 or 3 times, but I have never ventured further than the port area.

 

I am cruising with some new first time cruisers in a few months, and we are going to Freeport. Can we take take a cab to "town" and walk around and visit any free beaches or anything? Is that possible in Freeport? Is there even a town to go to on our own? If it is, are there plenty of cabs to get us back to the ship? 

 

I doubt they will want a true excursion so I was just wondering if this was an option.

You might ask on the Ports of Call board for the Bahamas…

There is shopping at Port Lucaya. The taxi that takes you there will most likely wait there to return you to the ship.

I was hesitant about Freeport, but on my last cruise we ventured to Bananna Beach through a ship excursion and had a wonderful time.

How far of a drive is it from the port to the shopping area?
