A great hall style of roof would be so cool. Stars, with shooting stars at night. What an amazing idea!

complawyer Posted January 18 #79 Share Posted January 18 ok, so go ahead and let 3-4000 cruisers help design the "perfect ship" GOK what the outcome would look like. hey chief, snow is beautiful, but not when you're trying to shovel your driveway, get your stuck car out, and most of all when it's 0 degrees outside. i truly hope you enjoy desert living--I just dont envy your air conditioning bills june thru sept. still hoping to share a cold one with you one day onboard a ship! You're shoveling your driveway in LA my friend? 🤣 But seriously, I know all about that stuff. I grew up in the God-forsaken Midwest. I shoveled. I jump started. I poured hot water on the frozen door of my $350 Chevy so I could open it and go to work (I actually plowed snow with that beater, mostly for fun). That said, if I don't have to shovel it or drive in it, it is very beautiful. I was back in Illinois in October and it snowed on Halloween. Seriously. I loved it. All that said, my AC bills are peanuts. We don't pay CA utility rates and dual pane windows, good insulation and efficient heat pumps are a great thing. Do you envy my winter heating bills??? As I type, the windows in my study are wide open and the fresh air is wonderful. 😎
complawyer Posted January 18 #81 Share Posted January 18 no, i no longer shovel snow, but i grew up in detroit, and it does get cold out there

Rare cruiseny4life Posted January 18 #83 Share Posted January 18 On the topic of meds...let's put a medical vending machine onboard. Get your OTC's, Band-Aid, and other supplies...it won't be cheap, but they'll be available! Something similar to this located outside the medical center. And, of course charged to your room. Let's try not to add that (in)convenience fee since prices will be woefully inflated.

Travelling2Some Posted January 19 #85 Share Posted January 19 (edited) I'm surprised to see that my own version of the perfect ship (for me!) might not be so unpopular after all. What I want is a giant indoor solarium with lots of palm trees and foliage and a lazy river running through the "jungle". Several waterfalls and hot tubs and lots of little nooks and garden paths with comfy furniture. And we will need piano music and twinkle lights in there at night like Royal's Central Park area. I'd also like a gigantic library, plenty of bars and ethnic type foods. There would also be two Broadway quality shows a day. All balconies would be big enough to contain two loungers, a hot tub and a table and chairs comfortable enough to eat at. I also appreciate a good Observation Lounge up in the front of the ship (good place for that library) and a deck that fully circles the ship for walking. I know I'm in the minority but I wouldn't care if my ship had no casino, pool or sun decks. Oh yea, we are also going to have to steal Shaq's Big Chicken from Carnival and, craziest of all, I think my ship needs wood burning fireplaces!!! P.S. Really glad to see you guys have turned this thread around. The earliest posts did not seem to understand that this is supposed to be a fun fantasy. Nobody's going to build it so we don't have to be concerned if it will float (or sell). Edited January 19 by Travelling2Some 2

That is because those early posts came from people who realizes that it really isn't about fantasy, but it comes from an attempt to show that you don't need to be a trained marine engineer to design a cruise ship....experienced cruisers can also present realistic, practical, and popular design ideas based in reality just as good as those from the engineers...if not better.
Travelling2Some Posted January 19 #87 Share Posted January 19 Well that bit about the wood burning fireplaces is firmly in the realm of fantasy;)

I'm ok with that. I know what the intent of this thread was (I know you do too) and I'm just having so much fun with it! It's possible I sat at my desk just dreaming about being ensconced in a comfy leather chair, with the fireplace (it's electric, remember) blazing and the pups laying about, while I read the latest edition of Country Living or Reminisce (are those magazines even around anymore). But yea, I've heard of ships having those vending machines so it's definitely more on the, hey this could actually be done side!

At least my fireplace is electric hahaha...definitely thought about wood. Wouldn't really be a "great" room without. Alas, I kept my imagination somewhat tame. Haha, but I love it! Thanks so much for engaging. Isn't it fun?? If someone walks in my office right now, they'll be wondering why the heck I have my eyes closed and am smiling. And, I am so absolutely embarking on your incredible ship for that jungle, lazy river, and foliage. Yes please!! There's a reason I need to get myself to the Dominican Republic (I might not step foot out of the lazy river there). I laughed at the balconies being big enough for a hot tub. What an incredible place for morning coffee, eh? As you cruise the coastline of some far away place sipping coffee/tea while enjoying the bubbles. I don't need a casino either!!
Travelling2Some Posted January 19 #90 Share Posted January 19 (edited) Hmmm . . . come to think of it, wasn't there a fireplace (probably coal?) in that stateroom on the Titanic Rose & Jack were artistically inclined in? BTW (other thread) we thought the Azores were just stunning too, so lets just sail this dream ship around there for awhile:) Edited January 19 by Travelling2Some

You are more than welcome to come for a visit and take care of my shoveling. Our liquor and beer stock is plentiful, and I think you can help put a decent dent into the inventory so we can go out and buy more. I'll even let you into the good stuff 😉🐀. The sky poop has started again today, just when the sidewalks were clear enough to safely walk the dog without slipping and sliding everywhere. One of the owners suites has a fireplace - maybe the Joy? Certainly a nice touch for the cold weather ships visiting Alaska. We have a small one in our tv unit so definitely something they could incorporate for the fancy Haven rooms to make them a bit fancier and homey. I'll add my vote for a lazy river concept around the main pool. Can have little bridges to walk over the river and get to the center pool area with loungers all around both sides. If every balcony room had it's own private hot tub - no need to worry about having a bunch of public ones, so there's your space for the lazy river. In all honestly though - I just want to see more ships create a space for night sky viewing. You're out in the middle of the ocean with no light pollution - except for the one you create yourself. Why can't there be a spot aft that isn't flooded with spotlights everywhere and comfy day beds so we can lounge and watch the stars? Surely they can make night sky friendly lights so others can see us without blocking the stars.

When I sailed around pirates corner on the Star before the big "C" we had a blackout for two nights and it was quite nice to go up and watch the stars. UKstages Posted January 19 #95 Share Posted January 19 yes, thanks, but that's three words! and i promised only two. and those that have read my posts know i'm a man of very few words. plus, the staff on pride of america has that "i'm an american and i don't have to make up your room or serve you a drink" problem, so i don't recommend that ship. yikes! stripes! i've used up my word quota for this hour. We will find out about the service in March. Odds are we spend lots of time off the ship, and won't have to worry about service issues too much. Besides, we tend to always find a friendly bartender or 2 on every cruise. The amount of "non drink pkg" drinks we have had is quite large. I'm still quite good on my word quota today, and I think I banked some last night, just in case. Edited January 19 by Panhandle Couple
Rare WestCoastDeb Posted January 19 #98 Share Posted January 19 Went to a land based all inclusive resort once that had 'magic boxes' in each room - essentially a cabinet that had one door on the outside of the room and one door on the inside. Any room service was put in there for you to retrieve, and dirty dishes went back in for pickup. I think those would be good.
spanishguy1970 Posted January 19 #99 Share Posted January 19 they need to stop designing new ships and work on improving customer service, entertainment and giving more incentives to loyal customers. I read they are billions in debt maybe just maybe is because their service is declining. IMO
