DShier1a Posted January 27 #1 Share Posted January 27 Are guarantee cabin assignments completely random or do they consider any factors? I am not sure if anyone has a way of knowing this. Mostly just my curious mind working 🙂
CruiserBruce Posted January 27 #2 Share Posted January 27 Its all about filling the ship, otherwise, generally its a secret. GTY assignments are not made on status, that anyone has been able to confirm. Certainly hasn't helped us.
Rare sunviking90 Posted January 27 #3 Share Posted January 27 Our experience has been the lower the status the better the assignment. 😏. As we’ve gotten higher status our assignment will be what was booked while lower status friends will get better.

I think they figure they've "got" us, so they don't need to give us anything. That's gratitude for ya! Nobody knows how they assign upgrades. We don't call it the "upgrade fairy" for nothing. 3
Lolou127 Posted January 29 #5 Share Posted January 29 I’m currently looking at a Mediterranean cruise on the Oosterdam, a GTY cabin is about £600 less than a deck 4 midship cabin, if I chance it am I likely to be above the Theatre or below the pool? also when do they assign the GTY cabins? Anywhere from 30 days prior to sailing to at the pier. The average seems to be around 8-10 days prior to sailing. Where you end up is totally dependent on sales, and is not predictable. It is different every cruise, as every cruise sells differently.

lpmpsail Posted January 29 #8 Share Posted January 29 We tried it once and will never do it again. Thought that our 4-star Mariner status would help to get a better room, but got an awful room - could hear everything from the BB King club 2 floors below and we're early to bed people. Got someone from Guest Services to listen at 10:00 at night - they seemed surprised at the sound. But they would not upgrade us to another level room - had to stay within the level we booked at - even with our Mariner status. Got moved to the back of the ship with a horribly restricted view. Never again will we do a Guaranteed room.

Like @lpmpsail, one and done. We booked our first transAtlantic through a mail-order flyer and only way was guarantee. We even took the upgrade from Inside to OceanView. Ended up right under BBKings! Fortunately I'm a nightowl and my husband can sleep through anything, but it taught us a lesson.
Djptcp Posted January 30 #10 Share Posted January 30 I had a Neptune Suite Gty once and my PVP suggested I send an email to the Inventory Dept. telling them I had mobility issues and needed a suite near an elevator. Unfortunately, we were assigned a Neptune at the absolute aft on Deck 4! I emailed the Inventory Dept. again and requested a different Neptune. Never heard from them. We were 4* Mariners. We hated the location and the Neptune was smaller than the Neptunes we were used to. Really made a negative impact on our cruise being so far from everything. It was a casino offer and I had to take a GTY - never again! Most of our cruises are casino offers with free verandah or Vista suite GTY. We now always pay more to select a specific cabin and it's worth the extra money after only having to pay port charges, taxes, and fees with the offer.
