sddsddean Posted February 2 #1 Share Posted February 2 Bit of an odd question, but here goes! We are doing a bit of a road trip round south Texas (bounded by Houston, Galveston, Austin & Waco) in April before our cruise. I suffer from hayfever which is mainly caused by oil seed rape (Canola in the US) and just wanted to know if Canola is grown in that sort of area. I'll probably bring my hayfever medication 'just in case', but as they say, forewarned is forearmed! Simon
Texas Tillie Posted February 3 #2 Share Posted February 3 No way canola can be grown in Texas, it gets way too hot in the summer. However, we have plenty of things that set off allergies. April will have all kinds of pollens floating around. And, fyi, the area you mentioned isn’t considered South Texas, there’s a lot more Texas south of those areas. Welcome to Texas!!
sddsddean Posted February 3 Author #3 Share Posted February 3 Thanks for that TT. Like I said, I’ll bring my meds ‘just in case’. Arriving in Houston in 8 weeks and really looking forward to it! Simon
dan4182 Posted February 3 #4 Share Posted February 3 Oak, Pine and Cedar pollen are the allergens you are most likely to encounter as far as tree pollen goes.
sddsddean Posted February 3 Author #5 Share Posted February 3 Thanks Dan. I start getting it from tree pollen over here any time now (oh joy!), so I’ll definitely be bringing my meds! Simon
ATSEAMYLIFE Posted February 7 #6 Share Posted February 7 Cedar has been bad this year. I don't usually have issues, but this last couple of months have even gotten to me.
