I was told that they would operate under the A & K flag not Crystal. Also, they have been in the planning for A & K for a long time and are needed to fit into their business model. Correct.. They are just following the trend to control the product. A&K currently leases space on river boats on both market segments. Uniworld built their own as did Viking. The issue was the condition of the product. In Egypt, boats were old and poorly maintained, most sat tied up rotting from the Arab Spring. In the case of Egypt, the boat (it is a boat) as well as its furnishing must come from Egypt manufacturer. Importation from abroad exceedingly difficult.

Whipsnade Posted June 27 #109 Share Posted June 27 I was the naysayer and have been proven wrong. Happy to dine on a small crow. However, a memorandum of understanding does not a ship make. So far they are moving according to plan. When can we sign up for inaugural??!!

I definitely caution everyone to take any details in the renderings with a grain of salt for sure though. Vince

When can we sign up for inaugural??!! 2028 is a realistic estimate (I think we talked about that in another thread), but I'd caution that it's not a commitment by either Fincantieri or Crystal at this point, just an estimate... And even then, that's still not a guarantee -- Fincantieri has delivered multiple ships late or unfinished in recent years. I wouldn't venture to set my heart on any specific dates right now. Whipsnade Posted June 27 #112 Share Posted June 27 Vince has it exactly right. However it does give us up if sailing in a new Crystal before we die. I will be 89 if they stay on plan. So many variables over the next four years in the world not to mention ship building. Right now I am more than content with the ships we have. Can’t really think of any changes I would lust for. Perhaps auto opening and closing public restrooms. Bigger pool. At least not smaller pool. No more electric violins. Variable menu in D’Ovidio.
