We have not booked anything and wondering if there are things we can get at the port.  We looked at a tour on Viator but it is a 6 hr tour and we would leave at 9am so it’s not possible.

Your request is a bit vague.  Could you give more details please?

just wondering about shore excursions that would be available for purchase at the port.  We are used to the Caribbean where there are always tour companies offering “island” tours or something like that.  Or there is a beach close buy or shops to visit.  Any suggestions would be appreciated

This isn't the Caribbean. There won't be folks hawking tours.

- And the nice beaches and shops to visit are not located where you will dock in Maui (Kahului).  It is a commercial/industrial area that really has nothing to offer visitors.  Your best bet is to rent a car and make your own tour

There are lots of shops and restaurants in Kona as you get off of the tender. You may just want to walk around that area. Also there is a small beach right by the tender at the King Kamehameha Hotel where you can swim if you like.

Quite right.  Don't know what we were (or weren't) thinking.

I stand by what I said at least-- there will not be folks hawking tours in Kona like you have in the Caribbean.

We visited Kona on the POA, it was after 2 days in Maui and 1 in Hilo on the other side of the big island, so we did a short walk around the town (45 - 60 mins), then back to the empty ship for an "off" day on the deck in the sun. We didn't find anything compelling to do, and after 3 days of tropical island fun it worked for us as an easy off day. If this is a limited stop while cruising by the Hawaiian islands, then by all means find something to see, anything really, just get off the boat see Hawaii!

The little beach was ok, right in the middle of everything, not some secluded tropical paradise but, then again famous Waikiki is also in the middle of everything and that doesn't seem to matter people.
