Koningsdam in Juneau on April 29, 2024

Recommended Posts

Nieuw Amsterdam tomorrow - about same time frame / a little earlier.

Thanks all, plus our cameraperson. Thanks, Leanne, for getting us started for the 2024 season. I've been here 2 hours now - need to get other stuff done.

Well, that's about it for today!  Nieuw Amsterdam tomorrow.  I believe it's only two ships in port tomorrow, as the Bliss had problems leaving Vancouver yesterday.

Koningsdam docked where she did so she could plug in and not put out air pollution. Yes. The captain on board Paul Adams got on in Hilo after the original captain went home on compassionate leave. The "substitute" is highly experienced, also has an ice pilot license and teaches at the Maritime academy in the Netherlands 3 months of the year and captains a ship another 3 months. He took us through a very narrow portion of the Inside Passage on the way back to Vancouver, one that reportedly hadn't been used by HAL for years. The tides were just right to squeak under power lines and make a sharp turn. It was a great cruise.
