Joesantos Posted May 2 #5 Share Posted May 2 Great to know about this. Hopefully it will include some major spruce ups! Carpet and furniture. These older ships have character but need a cleaning and updating.
Biker19 Posted May 13 #6 Share Posted May 13 Looks like she's done and on the way to Amsterdam for the 5/15 sailing.
CastleCritic Posted May 13 #7 Share Posted May 13 good to see, Im on the sailing after this weeks and was slightly curious why she was still in that dry dock this morning.

ONECRUISER Posted May 13 #9 Share Posted May 13 Looks like besides usual Marine side Maintenance this inc 20yr Mechanical checkup/updates with her extra week in Dry Dock. Radiance came out hers this Spring looking really good, they also used the extra week to spruce up the public areas had trouble finding a single spot of rust. Multiple Decks had all new carpet, painted all White areas and sanded/stained railings around the ship. Had that new car smell
cruiseguy1016 Posted May 14 #10 Share Posted May 14 I was on Jewel in March and although she didn't look terrible, she did look "tired" and in need of a spruce up. It sounds like this dry dock will have her back in tip-top shape again.
Biker19 Posted May 15 #11 Share Posted May 15 So, @twangster, does she have that new car smell?

Rare twangster Posted May 15 #13 Share Posted May 15 FYI - the May 15 sail away is delayed until 6pm due to timing getting through the lock on the way to the sea. Apparently it’s backed up so that’s the time the lock masters have given us. No impact to itinerary.

Rare twangster Posted May 15 #16 Share Posted May 15 So from what I've gathered so far is no venue changes. New mattresses that are just as firm as the old so if you like the mattresses on Royal, fear not, they are unchanged. New paint job. Spiffy in white. New Cisco access points for WiFi. Voom speed pretty great compared to mega ships in the fleet. No hand wash stations entering WJ, still the hand sanitizer machines. New carpet in at least my guest hallway. Cabins don't appear to be touched very much as near as I recall. Schooner Bar looks the same. One bartender mentioned they went through all equipment such as coolers and sinks and did a full inspection/rejuvenation. They were happy to greet us as we entered. All in all, no complaints. 6

Were the wireless access points in the room and was the speed test you did done in your room? I will have to work remotely for work during this cruise so was exploring how well the wifi works in the staterooms and came across this post. Thanks! That is likely location/cabin specific. If needed, you can slightly prop open the cabin door to further improve performance.
CastleCritic Posted June 27 #20 Share Posted June 27 (edited) I found the performance to be very very good (8th deck balcony slightly back from the forward elevator). Norway cruise earlier this month. Edited June 27 by CastleCritic

Norway cruise earlier this month. Glad to hear! This makes me feel better. We are on the 7th deck in a balcony room close to the business center, but I would like to work in the stateroom and if I am lucky even out on the balcony when we go in September. I changed cabins for my B2B. Ironically I had a better experience on cruise #1 with the AP down the hall 10 feet compared to cabion #2 with an AP right outside my cabin door.
