Anthem capacity

Recommended Posts

Just curious, somewhere during our recent cruise on Anthem I saw something which said that her passenger capacity was less than 4000.

Has this been reduced,we sailed on Quantum some years ago & there was a serious sun bed shortage during the cruise, there always seemed  plenty of free ones on Anthem, could just be a different make up of passengers that didn't like sunbathing!

I also have seen YouTube videos of news reports of Anthem hitting a storm some years ago where she is referred to as a 5000 passenger cruise ship.

Just to muddy the waters somewhat we did experience quite serious delays with lifts on Anthem which didn't happen on Quantum, the lifts on Anthem seemed to go 'Out of service' with annoying regularity at busy times!😮

Nothing has changed with any of the Q class ships (excluding Q+) in terms of capacity since they entered service - they all have a 100% capacity of around 4200 (full capacity of around 5000).

The Press Room section of the RCI site has some handy quick reference statistics pages: Anthem of the Seas (royalcaribbeanpresscenter.com)

@Biker19 is correct with the actual published capacity as 4,180 at double occupancy and 4,905 maximum capacity. Clearly within the 4,000 - 5,000 range mentioned, but not less than 4,000.  Her capacity has not changed since her April 2015 maiden voyage.  Our experience on Anthem did not reflect the elevator issues you hade, but that likely can happen on any ship.

Not sure that these two items are great metrics to judge capacity or number of souls on board a specific sailing.

You did not mention when or where you previous sailing took place but that could be part of the difference.  @snaefell you did mention that you just recently sailed on Anthem.  Taking that perspective alone.  Sailing or any vacation in mid-May are likely to have less people, particularly from a US perspective.  It is after the spring break/easter holidays and before the true summer break so much less family vacations are happening.  Throw in finals and graduations and the trips that do happen have a different focus.

It is likely that those traveling on a cruise in mid-May are retired, empty nest-ers or single or couples without children.  Not saying there are no families just slightly less.  That demographic will likely skew less towards pools and more towards elevators (just kidding but there likely is some truth there.)  Honestly there are probably many more cabins occupied by couples instead of families (3+).  That is give teh perspective that there are less at the pools and more at the elevators, regardless of other factors like weather, out of service lifts or other things that might be day to day.

It is in my mind that the passenger capacity figure was in a book about Anthem that was in one of the drawers in our cabin, the book basically was about the ship & on one page detailed the ships statistics including a passenger figure of 3900+.

Our first sailing on Quantum was from China to Singapore in October 2019,our Anthem sailing was her recent Transatlantic from Bayonne, both were supposedly full sailings with few children on board.

Another thing that was very different on our latest sailing was the Solarium Bistro, near impossible to get into without a long wait on Quantum we headed there for Breakfast & Lunch on our first day on Anthem & it was practically empty,we stuck to the WJ after that as there is so much more variety.

Not challenging you or your source of information, but that may have been some sort of marketing or other 3rd party publication and if it listed it as 3,900+ that clearly is not an accurate total number as there would be specific numbers for that.

It is correct that there are 3,900+, but the capacity numbers I provided are accurate for actual double occupancy of 4,180 and actual maximum capacity of 4,905, and come from more than one direct RCCL source.
