Beaver1975 Posted July 7 #1 Share Posted July 7 How does Diamond Priority Disembarkation work? Do you meet someone somewhere and they escort you to the front of the line like they do for Yacht Club?
Até Posted July 7 #2 Share Posted July 7 The times I've used it we met in a lounge or theater. Once the walk off line gets small enough they gather the group to leave. A few times Aurea was gathered at the same time. They escorted the group to the back of the remaining line. Technically you go ahead of the other colors, at least the ones that follow the instructions.
Rare Essiesmom Posted July 7 #3 Share Posted July 7 (edited) The debarkation instructions tell you when and where. If you choose to walk off with your luggage, you can go any time after debark begins. Otherwise you wait in the designated lounge and wait for your number to be called. Keep in mind that you may have to carry the bags you keep with you down a flight of stairs to the gangway. Edited July 7 by Essiesmom

I haven't paid attention to the regular passenger sequence on my last couple sailings. Have they dropped using the color tags for your luggage? All I see is group numbers by deck. Rare Essiesmom Posted July 8 #5 Share Posted July 8 I haven’t noticed if they come in different colors. Mine have been very dark blue or black. It’s the number that is important. There is a round spot you are supposed to peel off and stick to yourself, and a little piece you are supposed to place on the back of your cruise card.
TheBeardedCruiser Posted July 8 #6 Share Posted July 8 FYI: Even with Diamond loyalty status, if you stand outside of your room while wearing a luggage tag, they will not carry you ashore! That only works for our luggage apparently 🤔😕

On my recent cruise, they put diamonds in disembarcation groups 1 and 2, so you were allowed to disembark first, but you had to stand in line with everyone else. Line was longer than I liked, and I had time, so I actually hung out in a lounge waiting for the line to thin. I had also hoped it would be a nice escort off the ship like in YC, but no such luck.
Rare JamieLogical Posted July 10 #9 Share Posted July 10 As Diamond, they will leave luggage tags in your room that correspond to the Diamond group number. Walk-off will always be called first, so they won't start calling any group numbers until the designated times. I will say that in my experience, more so than on other cruise lines, people ignore the group numbers and try to just get off ASAP, which I don't understand because luggage is not ready if you get off early and you end up just waiting in the terminal where there are no chairs. I remember one time my husband and I were doing the self-walk-off on the Meraviglia in Brookly... the couple ahead of us had group 23... they were only calling up to group 3 or 4 at that point. Sure enough, when my husband and I got to the terminal, only the luggage up to group 3 or 4 was set out and available and there was just a vast expanse of empty concrete where the other bags would be put out much much later. That couple was going to just be standing there for a VERY long time.

I actually think MSC delays putting out later group's luggage to thwart these people. I have experienced it with NCL the most. Worst were in Manhattan, Tampa and San Pedro ports, we had priority disembark but when we got to the luggage areas it was full of later groups searching through the bags. Sometimes they had them roped off, but just try to keep the people out.
Rare kad56 Posted July 10 #11 Share Posted July 10 Is it always clear that the bags come out when your group is called? I travel light and I think I've done self-disembarkation with my carry-on every time.

They can't start unloading the luggage until the ship is docked and cleared by customs. They have literally thousands of bags to unload. They unload them in order by group.

But that would require people to exercise common sense, which seems to always be in short supply when it comes to embarkation and debarkation.

Being vacation, perhaps some people just don't pack any; same for patience. 🙄
