OBSERVATIONS FROM THE POOP DECK SEASCAPE JULY

On the second week English speaking guests had to take a number and sit outside the dining room as the French were allowed to be seated ahead of us .

I would be having a one-on-one with the YC Director about this the 2nd time it happened.  I'd forgive the first time and point out to the Maitre'd that that behavior was unacceptable.

Taking a  page off of @morpheusofthesea playbook, I just booked my DW and I the two meal package for each sailing on our upcoming B2B.  She said she liked the service we received at Butcher's Cut on our last cruise but she did not want to be escorted to the restaurant by our butler.  I reminded her that last time our butler did escort us and introduce us to the maitre'd and that's probably why we got such great service. She has agreed to let our butler escort us to our two specialty dinners.

I just hope the teppanyaki is good on Seascape.  I plan to do lunch at Kaito Sushi and HOLA! Whether or not we'll have the butler escort us to those is unknown at this time.

The menu was definitely a cut above normal fare ..my shakshuka was the best one I've had that I didn't make myself. We are on two msc cruises next year that are different ships than the one where we didn't have a good experience and to be honest we'll probably try again if it fits our schedule...knowing it's a new and  different crew and maybe a better experience

Ok...so looking forward to the shakshuka (we're from that part of the world).  DH will be so happy. Just hope the butler lets everyone know that we're visiting royalty from YC and expected to be treated as such. 🙂

From what I've read from you I expected that the shakshuka might interest you 🙂

You can find my review if you care to...but we came in yc...getting seated immediately is where the fun stopped at brunch.  Again...may have been a one off...my meal was good (my wife's was not)

None of this is a criticism of our cruise except for brunch

I guess when you eat with steerage, you get treated like steerage.......

There is even more to this statement. In steerage the service providers are subjected to less than decent behavior. On our recent MSC Explora  cruise we met with our restaurant maitre d' and had some really informative behind the scenes information. He came over from Celebrity cruises where he worked his way up to manager and maitre d' of both Bleu and Eden restaurants. He was more proud of the fact that Celebrity asked him to open their newest ship Edge and then Beyond in the same capacity. He became disillusioned with the clientele. He was offered a position on the MSC Seashore as Specialty Restaurant manager and took it only to quit after just 2 months not even finishing his contract stating to us it was dealing with an even worse crowd.

Kinda "nice" that you've keep this thread open so we can discuss miscellaneous-type topics.

Here's one...

BCD read on a well-known social media site that Mustafa is no longer with MSC. Not sure if this is just a rumor or if any confirmation has been provided. We have never had the pleasure of a sailing with him, but had expected we would eventually. Now, alas, perhaps not. 😞

While there is nothing certain, regarding his status with MSC, I will make this observation in connection with the generosity attributed to Mustafa.

Lavish gestures of recompense for wronged guests are all well-and-fine from the guests' perspective. However, having spent years in F/B/H management, I can tell you that directors and above take a dim view of managers being overly generous.

On this specific topic, the best managers, from the perspective of those above them, are those who make guests happy without giving away the farm.

Consider how many other over-the-top gestures may have been on his record, knowing only a small fraction of cruise activity is reported here on CC.

Thanks.....I know exactly how he feels....there's not enough cowbell on social media. I am getting psyched up this week. DW is packed (she packs for me). Will start off my next observations at the end of the week, we leave 9/14. Look forward to both your inputs.

Those CCers who have read of my antics know my cruise equipage is considerable, to say the least.

My wife would blanch at the merest suggestion of packing for me.

I would have never guessed Celebrity would have had a less than pleasing clientele. The other line that starts with a "C" of course but Celebrity who knew?!

If my DH even breathed the idea of packing for him blanching is the most minor of conceptions he'd be met with 💀

I think you hit the nail on its head. I think he pushed too hard for changes to accommodate guests like 'course by course in room dining.'

I look forward to observations from both the "poop deck" next week and the "peach deck" over New Year's.

Only in the fact if my DH reads these and gets an attitude!

All are invited to frolic, cavort, romp and prance here at our Pierian Spring, a fountain of knowledge for the uninitiated.
