dreamboat43 Posted July 17 #1 Share Posted July 17 Our cruise leaves from Athens. We will fly in the day before, mid-morning. We would like to find a great hotel that is close to sight-seeing so we can make the most of the day we arrive. Any recommendations?
2blueyam Posted July 18 #2 Share Posted July 18 Athens Capital Center Hotel - MGallery is very nice with a rooftop restaurant / bar with a view of the Acropolis, but it is not cheap. Location is good for walking to the big attractions except the Acropolis and Acropolis Museum. We stayed there for 3 + 1 nights on a Greece land tour in April 2023. Walk over to Athena's cook for a great reasonably priced meal.
Rare carlmm Posted July 18 #3 Share Posted July 18 Basically any hotel in or close to the Plaka is well situated.
cruisefam38 Posted July 18 #4 Share Posted July 18 We stayed at Sweet Home Hotel in Athens for pre-cruise stays in Athens in 2019 and 2022. https://www.sweethomehotel.gr/ It is a small, no frills establishment. Reviews are still quite good. Sights and sites, restaurants, and shopping are all easily accessible.

Amazing staff and service. Have stayed there several times and never disappointed.
Rare sambamama Posted July 26 #6 Share Posted July 26 The Hotel Attalos is great and in the Plaka area. But its popular and fills quickly. Its cheaper than many, has a great breakfast and is 15 minutes from the Acropolis.

Friendly staff, excellent breakfast at Hotel and the amazing roof top bar and views were to die for! Close enough walk to The Acropolis and other sights and than a quick taxi ride to the port for our cruise!

It was the breakfast, hotel staff, location and most of all the roof top bar that made it super special! Enjoy!

zqvol Posted July 29 #11 Share Posted July 29 Whatever hotel, you decide on, spend the morning of your cruise sightseeing as much as possible. Don’t be in a rush to get to the ship. Spend a little bit extra and take a cab to the ship (I recommend George’s Taxi) don’t use public transport just to save a few Euros.
cruisegirl1 Posted July 31 #12 Share Posted July 31 Is there a particular area to stay -or avoid. Hotel Attalos is sold out for my stay. Thanks.

Gwendy Posted August 7 #14 Share Posted August 7 We stayed at AD Athens hotel last year. Excellent location, walk to most sights. Just off Plaka and over the road from Acropolis museum. Subway station very close. Rooftop area with amazing views of Acropolis especially at night. Owners very helpful and courteous. AD Athens Luxury Rooms & Suites ΑΘ. ΔΙΑΚΟΥ 4 A. If it's in your budget or you have a bunch of Marriott Bonvoy points its hard to beat Hotel Grande Bretagne both for location and amenities. bwaz Posted August 11 #17 Share Posted August 11 We stayed at the AVA Hotel in the Plaka. We absolutely loved it. View of Hadrian's Gate and the Acropolis wall from our balcony. Easy walk to to Acropolis Museum and Odeon of Herodes Atticus. The best, most helpful and most competent front desk staff I have encountered in a long time. 9tee2Sea Posted August 12 #18 Share Posted August 12 I stayed at a Boutique hotel called Home and Poetry. Great area. Once out the front door, turn left, walk thru Plaka area with all the shops/restaurants. Turn right, Hop On Hop Off just down the street. Metro to airport is a few blocks around the corner. GREAT rooftop breakfast ( made to order, included with stay) with view of Acropolis. Very small elevator, so if you have big luggage, you will have to make many trips ( but its only 3 stories tall).
