Sailing NCL Getaway 2/16/25 staying 2 nights pre cruise at Hyatt Place and 2 nights post cruise at Inn on St Peter. Best way to get from airport to Hyatt Place? How difficult is the walk to the ship with luggage? Best way to get to Inn on St Peter post cruise? First time in New Orleans so any help is appreciated.

Don't know the answer.  But New Orleans port is a very crowed and difficult place.  Street access is very poor and a train track frequently blocks auto traffic for a while.  I had two Uber drivers give up after not being able to get to the pickup  point or us not being able find each other.  Doesn't answer you question, but I got to vent.

last time I was in NOLA, it was just after everything opened from Covid.  Take an Uber from airport to Hotel.  I stayed at The Cornstalk ( dont remember what street it was on), but I walked thru Jackson Square with my luggage to get to my hotel.  There is an app that I use ( Rome2Rio) that gives you very good walking direction with a small map, and worded instructions ( walk xx amount of feet, turn left.....).

I was last there in March of 2023.  We stayed somewhat close, but still opted for a taxi ride to get from our hotel to the cruise terminal.  The road leading to the cruise terminal is clearly meant for cars and does not appear to be pedestrian friendly.  I'm sure it could be done if you are dedicated, but I'm on vacation and willing to spend a few dollars for an easier experience.

The overall answer is whatever you want that is cheaper. Here are the details:

Airport to hotel/hotel to airport: there is a fix cost for taxis from MSY to the French Quarter, Central Business District, and warehouse district. The charge is $36 for up to two passengers OR $15 pp for 3 or more in your travel party (https://flymsy.com/ground-transportation/). No reason to reserve a cab in advance, there is a dispatch stand right outside baggage claim.

Uber/Lyft can be a really good options if you have 4 or more people and want one vehicle See instructions for the airport at: https://flymsy.com/ride-app-2/.

Hotel to ship/ship to hotel: New Orleans taxi cab laws limit fares to/from the cruise ship terminals. The rate is $14 for one passenger OR $8/pp for 2 or more (or the meter fare), whichever is greater (https://nola.gov/next/ground-transportation-bureau/topics/new-orleans-taxicab-rates/ [see last line of the chart].

Uber/Lyft is the same as above, load up the app and see how much it will cost, and where they will pick you up.

Hope this helps!

Taking a taxi from the airport to the Hyatt probably is the simplest and easiest solution upon arrival.  The Hyatt Place is right across the street from the convention center, but most of the places you'll likely want to visit could require a bit of walking.  The World War II Museum is the most visited attraction in New Orleans, and it is well worth spending the better part of a day there.  It's about a half mile walk west from the Hyatt, so you may want to visit there during your pre-cruise visit.  There are a number of excellent restaurants in the area within walking distance.  If you want to visit the Audubon Zoo during your visit, you can get there via the St. Charles St. streetcar.  There's a streetcar stop a block from the WWII Museum and another near the zoo entrance.  The streetcar ride to the zoo also takes you though the Garden District with its outstanding examples of unique architecture.  Another alternative would be to save the zoo visit for after your cruise.  The Audubon Aquarium is near the end of Canal St. near the French Quarter.  You can book a riverboat ride from there to the zoo, entering the zoo by the "back door."

To get to the cruise terminal from the Hyatt, turn left and walk north on Convention Center Blvd. one block to Julia St.  Turn right and walk a hundred yards or so to the escalator (or elevator if you prefer) to the walkway over the railroad tracks.  The walkway takes you to the Riverwalk Mall.  Enter the mall and walk straight ahead about 100 feet to an elevator on your left to go down to the cruise terminal.  Baggage handlers will be near the ground floor elevator door to take your luggage.  The entrance to the cruise terminal is about 100 feet from the elevator.  The total walking distance is under a half mile, and much of it is inside or under a canopy.  Easy peasy.

The Inn on St. Peter St. is in the French Quarter, more than a mile from the cruise terminal, so you probably will want to take a taxi after your cruise.  The streets in the Quarter are narrow and they sometimes are closed to all but pedestrian traffic.  Many of the New Orleans highlight locations are in the Quarter, so be prepared to do some walking.  There are many great bars, restaurants, and music venues there.  A taxi back to the airport is the simplest solution for your return home.  Laissez les bon temps rouler!

We used to walk that way through the mall, but the last few years we just walk from our hotel to the cruise terminal without using the walkway inside the Riverwalk Mall.

We just roll our bags on the sidewalk by the 'whale' lot (outside the mall) and cross the tracks to the port.  There are porters there to take your luggage and a police officer to help you cross the tracks/road.

t seems like just about every time we tried to go that way, there was a train occupying the tracks.

I guess we have been lucky!  We have cruised from NOLA once or twice a year for the last decade or so (except for covid cancels) and have never been stopped by a train.

During one of the startup cruises, NCL sent us all back that same way to be tested at a local hotel.  (I think it was Marriot?)

Uber or Lyft-- New Orleans has some of the worst taxis of a major US city.
