leafsnation Posted July 19 #76 Share Posted July 19 I sent an email to carnival and there are no plans to start loyalty with all Carnival brands. Princess, HAL , Cunard, Carnival etc. We are new to carnival but are loyal HAL cruisers. Bob

When you reach 200 days and reach the Diamond Level you are given a free specialty dinner for two. When we reached 400 days you would think that they would throw you another specialty dinner since we had spent the money for another 200 days, but they don't. Yet they give specialty dinners to gamblers like they are candy. 🤔 The second thing really won't affect me since I'll never have that many cruises, but I know people that do. Did you know that the Milestone program ends at 100 cruises? isn't 125, 150, 175 cruises and beyond milestones? I think it would be fair to start back at 25% for 125 cruises and so on. I brought these examples up to JH and he agreed with me, and said he would bring these examples up to the beards. We shall see. 😎 i just made platinum so at my rate i might make diamond by the time im 90. That being said i agree with your points.

ProgRockCruiser Posted July 19 #80 Share Posted July 19 Delurking again... We never take advantage of the free drink for Gold VIFP, because we always get the drink package. But if we didn't, the running through hoops required to cash it in (and even stupider hoops for P/D) does seem kinda dumb. But for those folks that do drink a la carte this seems like a (very) mild benefit to a perk to make it easier to use. We're not cruising for a couple of years, probably, so whatever changes are made to the VIFP program will be interesting to observe from a non-participant PoV, I suppose. Back to my hole to lurk again...

Why not give solo cruisers additional sea days? Because honestly - every room bought by a solo cruiser instead of multiple people is basically a net loser. You pay as much for the room, but average significantly less onboard spend... and onboard spend is where they make profit.

No, the difference is onboard spend. On average - the cruise line makes no profit selling the room. On average - the cruise line makes no profit on port charges and taxes. On average - the cruise line makes 2x the profit in onboard spend from 2 people as from 1 person. In 2021 - the average Carnival onboard spend was $103 per passenger per day. That means on average - for a week long cruise, Carnival would have to charge a solo traveler about $700 more than the same room with 2 people to break even. 1

Just like Casinos aren't basing their business model on no one ever winning - they're basing it on the average, aggregated across large numbers of people.
