room with a view Posted August 14 #1 Share Posted August 14 We had a cruise booked in June on the NCL Pearl , unfortunately this had to be cancelled and we moved the date to September . We knew that Split had been dropped and replaced with Rijeka ...a disappointment as Split looked so interesting. Looking at Rijeka it seems to be quite small ....anyone visited and can give some options ? Opatija is not far away so that could be an alternative. Very picturesque, don’t recall a lot to do there but the gardens are stunning.

I would be excited about Rijeka as a port of call. Rijeka is looking at building a cruise ship terminal. Very old fishing community. A number of current and former NCL officers call Rijeka home. Enjoy!!!

slakko Posted August 14 #5 Share Posted August 14 Rijeka is smaller than Split but not substantially so. Split is much more tourist oriented but as a city to spend a few hours in Rijeka is very fun. There is a part of town (Trsat) up the hill (there's a public bus but I'm sure as a cruise port something would be on) with the old castle ruins and amazing views. Just like Split the food in town is great, especially the seafood.

CruiseMH Posted August 18 #7 Share Posted August 18 Every square inch of the coast of croatia is stunningly beutiful. The only difference between split and Rijeka is that Split is much more tourist oriented.
