Can you choose which main dining room you would like to eat at each night?

Normally that has been the case. However, Princess is changing their dining room policies.

It depends on what sort of dining arrangement you want. Princess is changing things so that one dining room is anytime (walk-in) dining, one is traditional dining at either 5:00 PM or 7:30 PM, and one is reservations in 20 minute increments. You can choose which of those types of dining you want and that will determine which dining room you are in.

We don't want to eat at 5:00 PM or 7:30 PM so that removes one dining room from our options. We don't want anytime dining as we tend to "schedule" our time onboard so that removes another dining room from our options. We booked a table for 2 every night at 5:40 PM so we are in whichever dining room they have allocated for reserved times.

Yes

See Post #3.

That said, depending on which DR is setup for which of the three new dining options, you can always ask to do what you want in that room, but I wouldn't expect it to work if you want to be a walk-up and head to the wrong location.  Depending on demand on a particular voyage, you might be able to setup a flexible res for same table and wait staff in a different DR.

But I wouldn't count on anything outside of the new arrangement and consider lucky if you can get the DR you want in the dining style you want.

Welcome to Princess and Cruise Critic.  I don’t know your cruise history, but if you are new to Princess, there are 2 midship MDRs.,,one on deck 5 and the other on Deck 6.

Now comes the Navigational Lesson for the aft dining room.

Accessible by aft elevators only (or stairs).

And only the far right and far left elevators service that dining room.

If you are any where else on the ship, you will need to take the freeway/Interstate on Deck 7.

From Decks 5 or 6, you will need to get up to deck 7/Promenade and walk to the back/stern/aft.  Then either catch the outer elevators or walk down a flight of stairs.

From any other deck above 7, you will either use the aft elevators (for a more direct shot) or take forward/midship elevators to Deck 7 and follow above directions.

The kitchen is between deck 6 dining rooms.

Specifically on the Grand in which MDR are we most likely to get a table that accommodates just 2 people? We prefer an actual table to ourselves, not a long bench seat with a small table and a chair opposite the bench seat.  This could affect which dining option we choose. Thanks.

You might want to peruse this thread (last page) by @arizonaperson.  She is doing a terrific job of keeping this updated.

You will have to decide:

Anytime dining

Walk in

Traditional

That will determine which dining rooms you can chose from (unless you have Reserved Collection).
