No more MTG luncheon, only cocktail party

Our experience with the MTG luncheon is that you meet one officer and several times our table just turned into a complaint party with what Princess was doing wrong.

For some reason we always get to sit with the boasters trying to outdo each other telling of their tales. 😒

which cruise lines provide complimentary mini bar set ups with status?

Of course you know the answer. However, i think the OP has a very valid point.

I would do away with the bar setup in the cabin as it is one per cabin. Not per Elite.

However, with the other two sighted above, it is per Elite Passenger. So, using RCI 5 drinks a day times 7 days is 35 drinks per passenger.

Using Celebrity it is from 5-7pm and you can drink as much as you want during that 2 hour period.

I think the OP was trying to say why charge us $8 per drink at that PEL? Do you pay the $8 per drink at the PEL? I don't and wont!

Yes, Confirmed by our Future Cruise/Capt Circle host, Sadly the luncheon is a thing of the past.

Last week on the Ruby the MTG was a cocktail party in Adagio, Drinks and a few Canapes, Officers were present and mingling. Still get a Photo with the Captain.

After 20 mins people started to leave including Officers, we went down for dinner!

Very disappointing as we'd cancelled the Crown Grill to attend.

Doubt we will go again if invited..very sad, previously we have enjoyed the luncheon.

With the Plus/Premier bundles available, sounds like the luncheon is just going into extinction (no longer needed).

If you haven't noticed, Princess has turned into "pay to play", sanctuary suites, Premier with unlimited SD, bundles containing the fast Wifi...

A luncheon is a wasted hour or two in corporate's mind, throwing money at the past.

Packages would have nothing to do with the MTG lunch for 40 people on only one day of a cruise. Please explain your reasoning   We always take plus package and there is nothing in that package that has anything to do with the luncheon

Agree with you. I think the higher the rank the less they connect with those of a lower status even if they are seasoned travellers. If they are at your table they have less chance to avoid you and you them. Don't get me wrong I have been on past cruises where a member of staff was on our table in the MDR throughout our cruise and bought the wine every night. He was the Chief Engineer on the ship and was a nice guy. Have cruised mainly P&O so I am not totally up with what the luncheon is/has been on Princess. We have an upcoming cruise on Sky Princess so I don't know and haven't been told of any luncheon being held. We are Elite tier for this cruise.

The MTG lunch is limited to the top 20 people plus a guest   There may be a few added if some don’t bring a spouse or guest. 40 total. We have around 550 days with Princess and get invited maybe half the time

This nicely sums it up.

And sometimes we've sat with the complainer. The one who knows so much about how ships should be and what changes MUST be made. Monopolized the conversation of the whole table. Was impressed the officer was able to humor this person for the whole meal.

There is never Standing Room Only at a top 40 event. There are only 40 people invited, hardly an SRO crowd. Poster is mixing up the top 40 with the elite happy hours, or maybe the Captain's Circle event. They are totally different.

I believe they are confusing MTP with Captains Circle parties   The were be multiple parties depending on the amount of elites on board

Me too on that! We made the cut for the first time on the Grand a few weeks ago, and that was quite a surprise. Great lunch and really nice conversation. No complaints were aired.

I think we may have been at the same lunch. Captain Steve is one of our favorites

Imagine my surprise at being invited at only 188 days. My B2B on Grand 31 Jul - 14 Aug had over 2K first time Princess cruisers on each legs, and each leg had not that many Elite cruisers. It was so odd to have so much space during the Captain Circle cocktail parties.  I was on the Discovery for the Eclipse cruise, and the lounge where the Captain Circle party was held was packed.  I thoroughly enjoyed being invited, twice, to the MTG luncheon, as I did not think I'd ever qualify.  I hope they don't cancel the offering as attending again at some point is a goal for me. 😉

We have only seen the Cocktail party on ships with an Adagio. Most ships do not have a location that intimate for just 40 people. On every other ship it has been a lunch as recent as earlier this month on the Grand

We were on the same b2b   Yes they were really nice. Alaska cruises always attract lots of first time cruisers and there was no talk of cocktail parties and I had several discussions with Josh the head of future cruises who was the host at them

We were on the Discovery Princess last month and were told by head of customer service that the luncheons were going away.  This was at the MTG cocktail party.  He said that they are phasing out the luncheons.

However, we just got off of the Majestic Princess and they held a MTG luncheon.  No officer said anything about it going away, but I didn't ask about it either.

And I am really not sure what guest/customer services would have to do with MTG which is run by future cruise department. We will be in the Majestic in about a month. We shall see if our 550 days even makes the cut

He was one of the senior officers at the cocktail party talking with us.  I'm sure that senior officers are aware of these functions since they attend them.

Where on the Majestic was a cocktail party for 40 people held. I cannot recall a small enough area except for what used to be bar next to the casino which I believe is now used for slot machines

Exactly. Princess is getting no return from it revenue wise. Guests with all the days are going to continue to cruise. The focus is on moving the business forward.

Actually after chatting with someone at our table a few weeks ago we all agreed to book a 16 day cruise in January. I do believe chatting with others can produce revenue

Sun Princess has been having cocktail parties only. I believe this is due to their itineraries being only 7 days all summer. We went to three in a row in Good Spirits. Perfect size for this with amazing drinks and of course the cocktail show. These were fun!

I recall the ship's officer at our table asking, "So, where's your next cruise? and What's been your favorite cruise?"  This set the topic of the table conversation.  Maybe we were lucky, but we had well-mannered table-mates and it was nice hear their experiences and plans.

Cheers

I much prefer the cocktail reception as I can converse with whom I choose, and have turned down a few luncheons.  At sit down affairs I have been stuck with fellow travelers not to my liking or Officers from departments that are of no intertest to me.
