Which would you choose?

For me, the White Pass Train is a must when visiting Skagway.

I used Chilkoot Tours and took the van up to Fraser, BC (try to sit on right side). The ride up was beautiful and informative. The train back to Skagway from Fraser, BC was just over 1-1/2 hours (again try to sit on the right side of train). It was the perfect amount of time. And don't forget your passport. Canadian customs will board the van to check.

White Pass Train - we have done it twice, once with deep snow on the pass and the other with only a scattering.  So many great views, a lovely trip.

I would do Chilkoot Tours - bus one way/train the other way. I would do an entire day. Most days in Skagway are all day. You have time to see the town after.

I would find something that does the train both ways. I really just detest bus rides no matter how scenic they might be.

I would do the train, although I was happy with the choice to take the bus in one direction as you can see things you do not see on the train.

The bus is actually great. More of a large van with Chilkoot. It follows a different route and you get off several times (which you can't do on the train).

 

I have seen people fall asleep on the train on the way back. The view is the same on the train on the way back.
