Tequila Sunrise cocktail:

The tequila sunrise is a cocktail made of tequila, orange juice, and grenadine syrup. It's served unmixed in a tall glass. The modern drink originates from Sausalito, California, in the early 1970s after an earlier one created in the 1930s in Phoenix, Arizona.

Ingredients:
1 1/2 oz (3 parts) Tequila,
1/2 oz (1 part) Grenadine syrup,
3 oz (6 parts) Orange juice
Preparation:
Pour the tequila and orange juice into glass over ice. Add the grenadine, which will sink to the bottom. Do not stir. Garnish and serve.

Good morning friends!  Happy Labor Day!  The temp this morning is 70F and it will be sunny this morning, partly cloudy this afternoon and a high temp of 89 degrees. 🌤️ No thunderstorms materialized yesterday afternoon or evening.  Annie did you get rain?

Thanks go to Rich @richwmn for setting up the Daily and Fleet Report for us.  I’m filling in the blanks where necessary.  Today is the day for calendar adjustments but since this has already been done, I guess we’re off the hook.  Good for coconuts getting their own day. 🥥 It’s hard to live fearlessly sometimes.  No comments from me on the quote.  I wonder where Jennifer Aniston salad came from?  Eva @superoma can hopefully let us know more.  I've heard of the Tequila Sunrise cocktail but haven’t had one.  Decoy Cabernet Sauvignon was elusive on our summer Zuiderdam cruise. 🍷 DH wanted to try it but they were unable to get any delivered to the ship for the entire 70 days!  It was a very sad and tragic day in London in 1666.  However spirits were raised when VJ Day arrived in 1945.  The end of a very long World War II.  Thank you Eva @superomaDixie @summer slope and Ann @cat shepard for your work on the food and beverages.

Prayers have been said this morning by me for our Daily Care group including Tana and Terry, Chuck and Annie, Joy’s DS Bonnie, Nancy’s DB, Ann and Pat, Melisa and her DH, Jacqui, Elizabeth, Roy, Terri and Jim, , Ann's cleaning lady Leanne, Maureen’s DGD Andrea and baby, Edi's DSIL Sandy, and Bruno awaiting his ultrasound later this week.  Praying for better days ahead. 🙏 Also praying for DB, the Israelis and Ukrainians, the slain hostages and the remaining hostages, and our troops in the region. 🙏 Cheers to everyone celebrating special occasions, cruising and preparing to cruise!  Happy 16th birthday to my youngest DGChild, Austin. 🎂 Stay off the streets!  He’s legal to drive now! Thank you Vanessa @JazzyV for the list-keeping that you do so well.

The port of the day is Port-of-Spain, Trinidad and Tobago.  This was the port once before on Jan. 27, 2022.  I have been there once before.  Here is the link to January 2022 for anyone needing to retrieve their photos.

Thank you Graham @grapau27 for Father David's sermon!

Neighbors Brenda and Paul have had their home for sale for many months, but have recently accepted a contract for it.  She would like a get together soon, so I’ve invited her over on Tuesday.  They don’t have a new home to move to but have some plan in place.  I guess I’ll get the details tomorrow, but personally I would be worried.  I hope the new neighbors will be as friendly as Brenda and Paul, who are good Southern folks.  You would all enjoy hearing their accents.

Well, enjoy your Labor Day holiday.  Meanwhile stay safe and keep well!

On Feb. 7, 2015 we were in Port-of-Spain, Trinidad and Tobago on the Ruby Princess on a cruise that took us from Fort Lauderdale all the way around South America and back up to Los Angeles, 49 days total.  I was interested in a tour there so DH stayed and enjoyed an empty ship while I went first to the historic Mount St. Benedict's Monastery.  It is located 800 feet up in the mountains.  Probably those same mountains seen in this photo.00-krGnVk_TmW1vjXOSXmrbNCgtIzRKIF36hrdhGheqtVLSGbr_STKxzG1ZYQ6mWyff?cn=THISLIFE&res=medium&ts=1427213647

We headed out on the bus and up we went.  We arrived to see the monastery, a church and a place called Pax Guest House.  00-krGnVk_TmW1vjXOSXmrbNCgtIzRKIF36hrdhGheqtVI3uN_9mzdjfwA53tySSrhq?cn=THISLIFE&res=medium&ts=1427213692

We weren't stopping at any of these unique buildings, just passing by on our way to the Royal Botanic Gardens.  Next we passed this domed building made of glass which was the National Academy of the Performing Arts.00-krGnVk_TmW1vjXOSXmrbNCgtIzRKIF36hrdhGheqtVLkJlU4Q_gI9aDSdcDoLPdI?cn=THISLIFE&res=medium&ts=1427213802

Thank you Rich, Sandi, Vanessa, Eva, Ann, and Dixie for the FR&D   I like all 3 of today’s days.   Special prayers for Jacaui Ann, Pat, Terri, Jim,  Melissa, Chuck, Annie and Tana with  Annie and Chuck at the top of the list.

Not sure about today’s quote.

I visited Port-of-Spain on the Maasdam in 20153

A sad day in British history but a great one from WW2.

Doubtful about today’s meal..  My alternative is on hiatus until late September.
.

Expecting a pretty quiet Labor Day..

Good morning and Happy Labor Day!  Thanks for the Daily and maps Sandi and Rich.  Let's all celebrate coconut.  If I could I would have a slice of Wegmans coconut cake.  A good quote that is true for most.  Many people haven't the luxury of choice such as the remaining hostages or the innocent people in bombarded Gaza.  Thanks for the photos of Port of Spain Sandi.  I'll pass on the salad and the sunrise but like Duckhorn Decoy.  We had a bottle of on the Eurodam last winter thanks to our wonderful cellarmaster Rodel.

Prayers for all in our group who are ailing or grieving including Tana and Terry, Terri and Jim, Sandi's DB, Chuck and Annie, Melissa, Bonnie, Leanne, my DB and Jacqui as she goes through her upcoming move process.  Prayers for the citizens and soldiers in Ukraine.

I got a lot done yesterday cutting back plants with the battery powered hedge trimmer.  It is easier to cut them and let them dry before raking them.  We will attempt to get some fishing today as tomorrow is a town trip.  The boat wrapping is moved up due to expected rain on Friday.  Have a lovely Labor Day for those who celebrate.  Nancy

We visited Port of Spain, Trinidad, in March of this year and took a tour that included driving around the city as well as a visit to the Mount St. Benedict Monastery.  We also made a stop at the city’s botanical gardens, which are adjacent to the President’s home.  Port of Spain has several modern high rise buildings as well as numerous really nice older buildings and homes.  Unfortunately, I was always on the wrong side of the minibus when the driver paused for picture taking.  After we returned to the ship, some friends told us they had chosen to just walk around the city.  After a while, they noticed a police car following them.  Eventually the police car pulled up to them whereupon they were advised to get into the car.  They were then taken back to the ship.  Later that evening we were talking to the MDR hostess and she was also brought back to the ship by a policeman.

Apparently the monastery and the President's home and adjacent botanical garden are the only things to see there!  Haha!  That's concerning that a policeman would escort people back to the ship.  I'm not sure I'd want to get in a car with someone who claims to be a policeman.  Could have been an imposter.  Looks like a tour in Port-of-Spain is the only way to go while there.  Thanks for your observations.

Jennifer Anniston salad (with Bulgar or quinoa)

I would prefer this with quinoa as I find Bulgar tastes soggy the next day if there are leftovers.

from the ny times

Jennifer Aniston really put the “Green” into her iconic “Friends” role.

Fans may already know that the 53-year-old actress ate the same salad every day on-set while filming making the world fall in love with her as Rachel Greene.

That’s ten years, day-in and day-out, the same combination of dressed herbs, veggies and grains.

And despite the show ending nearly 18 years ago, both Aniston — and her fans — have long cherished the recipe for the hardy, protein-packed salad.

Thank you for posting today’s FR&D, Sandi! It is gorgeous outside this morning with a magical breeze.

Yesterday’s breakfast gathering was so helpful. It confirmed that this community was the place for me. So unlike any continuous care retirement community that I imagined. So my next step is to pull together what I need to get on the waitlist. I am not ready to move there yet, and I won’t go until Bindi crosses “the bridge”, she is 13 1/2 and this would be too stressful. But at least I know what my next step is, and I know I will not burden my family with this task.

Vanessa, thank you for sharing what is going on with all of us. Hope you continue to feel better.

Gym, Bindi walks, chores, a visit with good friends to share my “research” into CCRC - she is open, he is not. But I suspect he believes they are like the nursing homes of 60 years ago. Then supper at a friend’s tonight.

Decoy California Cabernet Sauvignon 2021

I used the 2021 vintage info, since that is the vintage highlighted on the vintner’s webpage. These folks have pricier Cabs, but this one has lots of consumer fans. Easy to find and reasonably priced. Online prices start at $15.98.

Winemakers notes

Established more than 30 years ago by legendary vintners Dan and Margaret Duckhorn, our roots run deep at Decoy. Since 1978, Duckhorn Vineyards has been exploring the character and complexity of Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. Drawing on our winemaking team’s expertise working with this varietal, Decoy Cabernet Sauvignon offers a rich and appealing expression of the varietal crafted to be ready upon release.

Production Notes
Varietal Composition: 90% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Merlot
This alluring Cabernet Sauvignon draws you in with aromas of black cherry, blackberry, mocha, savory blueberry and sweet baking spices. On the palate, silky tannins and a supple, rounded texture frame the voluptuous dark berry flavors, with notions of barrel spice adding nuance and complexity to the long, lush finish.
The growing season began with minimal winter rains and a mild spring. With drought conditions throughout California, we carefully tailored our vineyard practices to ensure balanced crop loads. With slightly elevated temperatures, budbreak at our North Coast vineyards was approximately two weeks ahead of the cooler Central Coast. As a result, our North Coast harvest concluded on October 15th, with our harvest on the Central Coast wrapping up on November 6th. In both regions, the berries and clusters were smaller than average, producing lower yields but deeply concentrated flavors, aromas and textures. Overall, the resulting wines are of exceptional quality, with lovely balance, excellent natural acidity and bright, juicy flavors.
