Rare CruiseCriticAaron Posted September 12 #1 Share Posted September 12 Good morning from Seattle! Cruise Critic is sailing to Alaska today aboard Carnival Luminosa. It's the ship's last Alaska voyage of the season, with ports including Juneau, Skagway, Ketchikan, Victoria and cruising Tracy Arm Fjord. We'll be posting about the ship and the trip but if you have any specific questions about Carnival Luminosa, post them here and we'll do our best to answer!

Old school design by Joe Farcus, so that means some very interesting and creative interior decor. Being Alaska, the crowd onboard is older -- probably 65+, with some variance either way. A few families but not many owing to the time of year. Carnival Luminosa isn't outfitted with a lot of features that Carnival guests might expect, like Guy's Burger Joint, BlueIguana Cantina, waterslides, splashparks, etc. It does have a very nice, very classy Alchemy Bar, and the Piano Bar -- while in an open area of the Deck 2 promenade -- is actually quite nice, if perhaps not as intimate as the piano bars on other Carnival ships. Though the ship shares some design commonalities with Carnival's Spirit-class vessels, it actually has more in common, design-wise, with Holland America Line's Vista-class (Zuiderdam, Oosterdam, Noordam, Westerdam). One thing I like about the ship is the absolutely absurd amount of open deck space. It's a good choice here in Alaska, especially with the scenic cruising opportunities. More to come.

Rare natefish95 Posted September 14 #5 Share Posted September 14 Any pictures of the free locker room/sauna on deck 10 forward would be appreciated! Does the casino switch over to Australian dollars during the transpacific? Is Javablue on deck 3 the only place to get specialty coffee? I loved the hidden coffee shop on the Spirit by the aft pool. Really looking forward to my Luminosa cruise down under in February.

Rare CruiseCriticAaron Posted September 16 Author #9 Share Posted September 16 As promised, a few photos of the ship. It's really quite a photogenic vessel -- it's very cozy by day, but especially so by night. We skipped Skagway the other day due to gale-force winds but ended up being able to dock in Icy Strait Point. Now sailing Tracy Arm Fjord. Late-season Alaska weather is the usual mixed bag of rain and sun, which is to be expected this time of year.
