Rare terrydtx Posted Sunday at 02:30 PM #1 Share Posted Sunday at 02:30 PM We booked the 14 day N. Statendam August 2026 cruise in a VH GTY cabin with Club Orange. We used our free CO upgrade to move up to a V category cabin on the 5th deck midship. The V is the highest non spa or aft facing Verandah category according to HAL. All of the V cabins are on deck 5 midship and cost about $100pp more than the Cat VA cabins all on deck 6 midship. I am trying to figure out why the V deck 5 cabins are considered higher and cost more than the VA deck 6 cabins? Do any of you have any insight on why deck a 5 V cabin is better and more expensive than deck 6 VA cabins? BTW by using CO to upgrade we saved $600pp on the cabin cost while CO only cost us $210pp so we saved $390pp and get all of the CO amenities.
Rare Mary229 Posted Sunday at 02:45 PM #2 Share Posted Sunday at 02:45 PM Only guessing - deck 5 is considered desirable as the first good veranda deck close to dining and entertainment. Deck 4 is a problematic deck. I assume you are also mid ship

Worse mistake I ever made There is CC member who is on our N. Statendam cruise who booked a VE on deck 8 right under the Spa. After he read some of my posts, he added CO and upgraded to a V on deck 5. He is now in the cabin next-door to ours, LOL
Rare POA1 Posted Sunday at 03:21 PM #6 Share Posted Sunday at 03:21 PM It's simply location. Almost all the verandah cabins have the same size balcony and same size interior space. There are a few exceptions with deeper balconies or larger interior space. Most of these are located where the ship "bumps out." There are also 2 VBs 4154 & 4156, I think, with a balcony that is as wide as a Neptune Suite, only deeper.
CNSJ Posted Sunday at 04:00 PM #7 Share Posted Sunday at 04:00 PM On the Pinnacle ships I find the VA cabins on Deck 6 to be "better" than the V cabins on Deck 5. One deck up (on 6) lets you see better over the lifeboats/tenders, and its equidistance on stairs to LIDO Deck 9 or GRAND DUTCH Cafe on Deck 3. Lower deck does provide a bit less motion - that may drive the extra $100. Both are great decks as they have cabins above and below. 1
gizmodog Posted Sunday at 04:29 PM #8 Share Posted Sunday at 04:29 PM I love deck 4, surprised at these remarks.

jhubba Posted yesterday at 01:26 AM #10 Share Posted yesterday at 01:26 AM terrydtx, I did the same thing, but booked a sidways cabin on deck 5, specifically cabin 5048 which looks like it is a bigger cabin than the regular verandah cabin and the verandah itself is quite a bit bigger than regular. Looking forward to our upcoming cruise in December.

Looking forward to our upcoming cruise in December. We had one other complication we are 3 couples traveling together and we wanted to have 3 cabins adjoining each other in a row. We all booked with CO, so the only place still available with 3 cabins together was on deck 5 in the V cabins. Cabin 5124 was available when we booked, which is the same sideways cabin as 5048 but it was by itself.

Me too we always book deck four nearly aft, a cabin which just has a shower, the verandas on this deck are also deeper. Still each to his own, that said we would never book one of the cabins on deck four at the front with the steel balcony. Got to have a full sea view and less movement. Yes, all 6 of us were on the Volendam last month and we all had CO on that cruise. We booked the N. Statendam 2026 cruise while on the Volendam, again all of us booked with CO. I think @terrydtx was referring to Amidships Cabins. Desirable for smoother ride and central access to many. We have booked Deck 4 aft (starboard) on HAL ships in the past (Alaska and Caribbean) which have unobstructed balconies, and are ok over the dining room. Just try to avoid Deck 4 aft port side where you are over the main kitchen. General rule on cruise ships, noise above is usually worse than below (movement on deck), but a music venue below or above can be bad. Best = Cabins above and below. If the Pogo Stick Group is onboard, find another cruise.
