Favorite Place Aboard

Okay ... having read that the HAL thread is dull and that we only have threads about clothing and tipping and how HAL is supposedly going "down the tubes," all start a new thread that has nothing to do with any of these listed topics.

Where is your VERY favorite place to go onboard HAL ships? Which is your favorite lounge? Which is your favorite place to go "hide-out" during the day? Where is your favorite place to go and gaze at the sea?

My favorite lounge is the Explorer's Lounge.

My favorite spot to watch the sea go by is the observation deck forward of the gym (on S and R ships).

My favorite "hide-out" during the day (for sea watching and conversation) is the Crows Nest. :)

Anyone else want to chime in?

My favorite place to hang out during the day is in the Crow's nest, right up front with that panoramic view of the sea. My husband and I camped out there all day, for nine hours, the first time we did the Panama Canal. You can also find me around the shops.

[/color]My favorite spot to watch the sea is on the fan tail. I am mesmerized by the wake and I live the panoramic view. I think there is a theme here.

At Night, my favorite lounge is the Explorer's Lounge. I love the music. I love the tea. I love the chocolates. The chairs are soooo comfortable. And on some ships there is a mural of a panoramic sea battle.(I just had to get that in)

Linda!

Sounds like we'll run into each other and have to arm wrestle for the best seats in the Crows Nest and Explorer's Lounge!!!! ;)

Oh, by the way ... Ryan looks like a cute kid! Thanks for the photo!

My favourite place to gaze at the sea would be from my own verandah with camera and binoculars ready, unless in Glacier Bay when I much prefer being outside on deck at the front of the ship. That said, I do like gazing at the sea from the Lido as well...........LOL

Explorer's Lounge is definitely my favourite lounge.

As to hiding during the day, I vary between Crow's Nest, Library and again the Lido (no wonder I put on weight on a cruise...)

the bar... either the Ocean, the Crow's Nest or the Dolphin... especially when we are out at the pool - has anyone else ordered the Corona beers in a bucket? It is a great deal, IMO... six beers for about $12 (a special), we share with friends at the pool. I am watching carbs, so hubby & friends benefit...

I don't have the experience on HAL that mpost of the other posters have so I can't speak to any but the Vista class.... 5186 on the Oosterdam last January... but the reason I booked that in the first place was the wraparound verandah on the Aft S .... and boy did I get what I paid for ....

And so... come December I'll be in my favorite place again ... only this time on the opposite side of the ship ... 5187 on the Westerdam

So.... all that said:

  • Aft wraparound verandah
  • Aft wraparound verandah
  • Casino (my handle is 777 and that's not just for the Boeing)
  • Dining Room (have to wear that tux I brought sometime!)
  • Aft wraparound verndah
  • Did I mention the verandah?
  • :) :o :p :D
  • I guess there are other places on the ship ... maybe they're nice too?

And I've started planning yet another Vista Class Vacation on the Oosterdam for Mexico out of the West Coast ... guess where? 5186!!!

Thanks for the reminder Rev!!

Cheers!

If you get invited to a "Floating Cocktail Party", would that make your list?

Certainly! Particularly for the duration of the Party!!!!! ;) :D Any day, any ship I'm on! People always play an important role in making places my "favorites." On the Statendam to Hawaii the Piano Bar became a favorite because of the people we met there and returned to meet again ... and, of course, the fun of "name that tune," among other activities.

Wow thanks to all! Although our next one is 12 days away (ok yes I am counting:rolleyes: ), your responses make me want to pull out the suitcases today!

My favorite spots on the ship-

*My balcony, very early in the morning, with a huge cup of cafe latte!

*The hot tub on a clear yet not to hot day when the roof is open

*The table for 2 windowside in the Pinnacle in the S class ships

*A chilly yet spectacular day upstairs in the Crows Nest with something to warm the soul.

*Sleeping in my cabin as the vessel rocks you to sleep.:)

Our typical day on Hal is. Get up early 6:15, I love to walk on the tread mill early and see us coming into a new port or on a sea day walking as the ship is going full speed ahead and I am listening to "Come Sail Away" by Styx on my MP3.:p Tom then goes to the Crow's Nest when I am doing that. He says he loves that time of the morning up there. In the afternoon we love Explorers Lounge. That is just a great place that is quiet to read but yet see out.:)

If we are not in the Explorer's Lounge you can find us at the Aft Pool;)

Our next favorite place is being out on deck.

We really are not late night party people. We will occasionly go to the Crow's Nest at night after early dining if there is not a show we want to see.

Now of course the above is only from being on 2 Vista class ships we may find a whole new place we love when we go on the Ryndam in November.:D

On the current fleet, I love the Crow's Nest at anytime of the day. Sitting in a deck chair on Lower Promenade Deck watching the sea and the people, reading a good book is great! It is hard to beat tea in the Explorer's Lounge or the coffee drinks and chocolates, listening to the Rosario Strings(or whatever their name may be that voyage)after dinner. And, then going to the Piano Bar (if the pianist is good: Perry, where are you?) for a nightcap.

My all time favorite spot, however, is aboard the Rotterdam V. Mid-ships, there was an observation area above the Sky Room, one had to use a ladder inside the superstructure to get there. You were at the highest point on the ship that a passenger could reach. But, once on deck, particularly at night, it was the most serene place I have ever experienced! What a wonderful memory!

Absolutely, positively the Explorer's Lounge, whether an event is going on there or not. There seems to be a subliminal message being broadcast: "Relaxxxx. You're on vacation. You don't HAVE to DO ANYTHING." The music, chocolates, tea are an added bonus.

The Crow's Nest is great for viewing some sight that benefits from a good vantage point. I'd actually spend a fair amount of time in the Java Cafe if it weren't in a hallway. The Ocean Bar can be pleasant if there is a good group playing there.

Explorer's Lounge before dinner. We have late seating, so we get to watch all the traffic to and from the dining room. Makes for great people watching. Also, I like looking out of the windows in the Explorer's Lounge before dinner (I'll open the drapes if they have already closed them). I just have to know or see what's going on outside. This is a relaxing place during the day, and after dinner if not going to a show.

Crow's Nest during the day, if it's too cool outside.

For sailaway, and while going into and out of the ports, I like to go all the way up on top of the Crow's Nest to the observation deck and see the sights. I love it up there.

I like watching the wake too. It seems to be somewhat captivating.

For sunning, I like to find quiet corners somewhere on the high decks.

If I don't want to be in the sun, the promenade is great. I take a good book out there and find one of those lounge chairs, then I fall asleep (5 cruises so far, and I have the same book).:)

  • 1 month later...

Found this thread:) ok...I have a question, the lounge located outside of the dining room~specifically on the Zuiderdam...is it the Explorer's Lounge?...I love having a drink before dinner.....I have late seating.

And the Crowe's Nest would be all the way forward~high up? Is that correct?

Explorer's lounge after diner and before the show-having a flamed dessert on the Westerdam, Jack Daniels, as they did not have Irish Whisky on the ship and the music.

Crow's Nest before diner or when there are few people around.

Our veranda at any time

But the best is when I am boarding the first time on a cruise!!!
